The third edition of Red Bull Tour Bus Off The Roof has arrived
We like music. Like, a lot. And while we’d happily resort to listening to it all day on our headphones, we can’t deny that the best way to consume it is when it’s in your face. Keeping this humble agenda in mind, we’re all geared up to kickstart the latter half of gig season 2016 with the third edition of the Red Bull Tour Bus Off The Roof. This is a gig where we take your favorite artists and put them on a bus that moonlights as a stage. Or wait, is it the other way around? Anyway, come October 16th, the behemoth will return to Mumbai to feature five of the biggest artists from the music community. To make sure everyone – from the know-it-all hipster to the dancing-my-bass-off newbie – have a memorable experience, our lineup includes artists from electronica to ambient blues and all out world music.
Right, so on the menu for this year we have…
Nucleya: From his artwork to his dance-till-you-drop tracks to his exponential rise as India’s go-to electronica artist in recent times, we couldn’t not have Udyan Sagar aka Nucleya taking the stage (or should we say bus) this year. Reason to watch him live: If you live by the motto ‘Dance like no one’s watching.’ Also, will we hear content from his latest album Raja Baja? Come and find out.
Benny Dayal Funktuation: Multiple genres, multiple languages, multiple dance moves on stage – that’s what we best know and love Benny for. Catch him and his band Funktuation bringing back funk and a whole lotta reasons to dance to the Red Bull Tour Bus stage. Reason to watch him live: Earworms follow every time Benny Dayal Funktuation takes stage. If you want to go back home humming ‘Humma Humma’ to yourself, this is the gig to be at.
Karsh Kale SoundSystem: Karsh Kale is hands down one of the most celebrated multi-instrumentalists, producers and composers to have emerged from indie-pendent India. After collaborating with international heavyweights like Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Radiohead and more, he’s here with his ensemble live act to give you a taste of the best of music across genres and regions. Reasons to watch him live: Karsh Kale SoundSystem is one of the few acts in the country whose stage visuals combined with the audio give you reasons to believe in the concept of mass hypnotism.
Blackstratblues: What started out as Warren Mendonsa’s (from Zero fame) pet project is today one of the best blues acts in the country. With their last year’s release titled ‘The Universe Has A Strange Sense Of Humour’, Warren and his band have established that you don’t always need a hyperactive frontman to hold the audience’s opinion. Reasons to watch them live: If you’ve ever picked up the guitar and quit because life caught up with you, there can be no better moral boost than this.
aswekeepsearching: Formed in September 2013, Ahmedabad based aswekeepsearching has achieved things that one would expect from a band older than a decade. From a Russia tour to a crowd-sourced debut album, they’ve done it all. And with the amount of gigs and the mileage across social media, they don’t seem to be in a mood to back down anytime soon. Reasons to watch them live: Post-rock is a genre which is as difficult to explain as it is enjoyable to watch live. You’ll believe us after watching these guys.
