Aloe Blacc had one of the biggest hits last year with his collaboration with Avicii, 'Wake Me Up,' also known as the first-ever country-EDM song, and the song that stopped the 2013 Ultra Music Festival in its fluorescent furry boots.
On March 11, Blacc will release his third album and his first on a major label, 'Lift Your Spirit' (XIX Recordings/Interscope). Most likely you've already heard the recent single, 'The Man,' which has sold a kagillion copies. But you've never heard it as the soul singer performed it last week in the Red Bull Studio Los Angeles.
Blacc was a participant at Red Bull Music Academy Melbourne in 2006. For the Red Bull Studio session, he enlisted a full chamber orchestra, led by Geoff “Double G” Gallegos, and an African dance troupe. Director Kyle Salazar shot the entire video in one uninterrupted take.
The special recording of 'The Man' in the Red Bull Studio Los Angeles is available for free download here.
“With this version of the song, I want to remind people that music is made by human beings and instruments,” says Blacc, who will play Coachella in April before touring the US this summer with Bruno Mars. “At the root of it all are blood sweat and tears behind songs. Not just zeros and ones.”
