Ida Mathilde Steensgaard is a highly accomplished athlete known for her success in both Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) and HYROX competitions. In 2024, she achieved a major milestone by qualifying for her first-ever HYROX Elite 15 Major at the Hong Kong event. She secured her qualification at the HYROX Hamburg competition, completing the event in 1h 2m 35s - a top performance considering she ran an extra lap by mistake.
Throughout 2024, Steensgaard has faced challenges, including a shoulder injury that she has been battling since April. She has stated that she is now "80 percent" recovered from this injury, which had a significant impact on her training. Despite these setbacks, she managed to juggle her recovery with her passion for competitions, culminating in the qualification for the Elite 15.
Reflecting on her recovery, she shared her struggle, stating: "For months my training felt stagnant. Progress seemed out of reach. I learned that sometimes, less is more. Prioritising my physical and mental well-being has become more important than ever"
In addition to her HYROX achievement, Steensgaard also created the World's Toughest Playground, an extreme obstacle course, which was a dream come true for her. She remarked on this accomplishment, saying, "Honestly, I didn't think that I would be able to both do the Red Bull Worlds Toughest Playground and try to qualify for the HYROX Majors within the same period"
Her focus now is on excelling at HYROX and making her debut at the World Championship in Chicago, USA, in 2025.
