Rockstar Games’ huge open world sandbox title, Grand Theft Auto V , has been blown up and cracked wide open on PC, and along with its first-person and graphical upgrades, fans around the world are tinkering under the hood of the game to make it even better with ridiculous contraptions, car tweaks and even gravity guns.
The game’s predecessorhad some incredible mods created for it by the community over the years, ranging from the legendary iCEnhancer 3.0 that cranked up the graphics to almost realistic visuals to the ability to jet around as Iron Man – and now mod makers are cranking GTA V up to eleven on PC with even better additions. The GTA community’s crack team of top modders and coders have been hard at work giving you new ways to play GTA V: we’ve already covered the mods you can install right now, but here’s a few of the even more ambitious ideas from the most ambitious modders that could be happening soon. Be sure to keep track of these on your iFruit 9iX.
JulioNIB – Jetpack and grappling hook
The one and only JulioNIB has made a name for himself over the years for tinkering with GTA IV, letting you step into the angry boots of the Incredible Hulk or zip around the city on a skateboard, and he’s also helped bring the OTT Iron Man mod to life too. Now the Brazilian modder has he’s turned his attention to GTA V, and he’s bringing all sorts of ridiculous ideas to life, as well as making the game’s biggest mystery a reality.
Yep, that’s right, the jetpack is finally real. Well, kind of. Made up of an odd combination of a diving backpack and nightsticks cobbled together, it doesn’t look like a whole lot, but once you’ve soaring through the skies you don’t care about what the ants on the ground are thinking – you don’t even see it when you’re flying around in first-person. While fans have been trying to piece together the Mount Chiliad Mystery since the game initially launched to try and make a jetpack appear, PC gamers now get the fun of simply installing this mod and getting to jet around the world Thunderball style. Now, we’ve just got to wait for Rockstar to make it happen on consoles and we’ll be set.
JulioNIB hasn’t just brought the elusive jetpack to life, he’s also ported over one of the best features from rival open world game Just Cause 2. Rico Rodriguez’s grappling hook is yours to play with in JulioNIB’s script, letting you cause all sorts of havoc: from tying cars together to pulling yourself towards buildings, or as the video above shows, attaching all manner of vehicles to a police helicopter in an attempt to bring it down. After what JulioNIB has done with GTA IV, we can’t wait to see what else he has in store for the franchise’s fifth PC outing.
Chileno – Nicefly
While Chileno has only crafted one mod so far, it’s already one of the most fun additions, even if the name is a bit odd. ‘Nice Fly’, as the name implies, lets you fly around a bit like Superman, only you’re missing the trademark pose and costume, and it looks like you’re freefalling all the time even if you’re soaring high above Los Santos. Still, chalk this one as being extremely promising, as the freedom to explore the skies is always welcome, and we can only see this mod getting better and better – fancy the proper Clark Kent costume and pose to take to the skies with?
dehan – Police Mod
ike Chileno, dehan has only made one mod for GTA V so far, but it looks to be one of the most comprehensive and compelling we’ve seen. Police Mod lets you switch sides and become an officer of the law, cracking down on crime across the city. It’s already had several versions launched, and dehan is constantly improving it, fixing bugs, improving features and adding more and more functionality to the mod to make you the baddest cop in town – we’ve always wanted to play GTA from the other side, and we doubt we’re alone, so can definitely see this becoming even bigger than it currently is.
RUNitsAlpha – Drift mod, super BMX, Pikachu whale
While some modders are keen to add new experiences to the game, some modders like to tweak and perfect existing game mechanics, or focus on one core aspect, like cars. RUNitsAlpha has tried his hand at the latter two, creating new cars like a Pokémon themed roadster, a James Bond-style weaponised motor, a tricked out BMX with an even bigger bunnyhop or a new drifting mod that lets you slide your car even more sideways like the best drivers in the world – along with a weird Pikachu humpback whale. Keep an eye on this mod maker, as you’ll sure to see more from him.
Look out for these in the future
A lot of mods out at the moment for GTA V are just small tweaks, but like any other game that’s been moddable over the years, hugely ambitious add-ons are on the cards from some enterprising mod teams, and we could be in for a treat in the coming months – even if Rockstar themselves are keeping mum on single-player DLC.

This upcoming mod, Los Santos Life RPG, aims to turn GTA V into a fully-fledged role playing game inspired by ArmA 3 mod Altis Life. That mod saw you engage in ‘real life’, letting you buy a car, get a job, collect a paycheck, or enforce the law as a cop – and we imagine the Los Santos Life mod will go down a similar route, only set in the larger than life city of Los Santos.
GTA:Multiplayer Team – V Multiplayer
V Multiplayer, on the other hand, aims to shake up the online component of GTA V with its own take on multiplayer that takes the online scale to a whole new level. The ambitious mod is aiming to make dedicated servers happen which will see up to 128 players descend on Los Santos, and it’s capable of running complex scripts to boost the gameplay too. Whether or not this becomes a reality in the coming months is up in the air, but with the ability to play with well over a hundred other GTA fans in the same world, it’s certainly got its leg up over GTA Online.
