Welcome to "You Good?", a 20-minute skate onslaught from Red Bull Skateboarding!
The result of a full year's filming and split into three full parts for Jamie Foy, Zion Wright and Alex Midler, expect end- to- end mayhem from untouched skatespots around the globe.
Opening with a packed team section featuring Ryan Sheckler, CJ Collins, Torey Pudwill, Chris Russell, Alex Sorgente, Brighton Zeuner, Gustavo Ribeiro, Felipe Gustavo, Ryan Decenzo and Joey Brezinski that sets the engines firing, it is left to Zion, Jamie and Alex to bring the heat right through to Alex's mind-blowing ender!
Together for a final filming mission in Taiwan, we asked Zion, Alex and Jamie for their thoughts on banging out a project like this with such a heavy squad behind it!
Which trick from your part was the most work for you?
Zion Wright: I would have to say it was the wallride at Hollywood High!
Alex Midler: I’d say the trick I worked the hardest for was the backside 360 kickflip lip on the West Covina rail. I tried it two separate times: first time was probably an hour session and the second trip back, it took me two hours until I finally landed it.
Jamie Foy: I feel like the hardest one was the frontside wallride in Taipei, mainly because I’ve never done one before, so I had to figure it out as I was trying it!
What was the craziest trick you saw go down on the filming trips?
ZW: The craziest trick I’ve seen was for sure Midler’s drop-down rail in Portugal.
AM: So many crazy tricks went down filming for this video, but watching Zion wallride the Hollywood 12 was insane. He would stick it so many times and not ride away! He broke his board, did the splits, got back up and did it a few tries later on some borrowed board. He did it really good!
JF: I would have to say Midler's 50-50 drop 50-50 on the kink rail in Portugal. He had a hard battle and came out on top.
How quickly do you go through boards when you’re on a filming mission like this?
ZW: Honestly, it depends on the spot I’m skating and if I’m either jumping down something or skating a rail. The type of pavement or surface texture I’m skating is a big factor too, but I’d say a board could last me, on average, two to three days.
AM: It really just depends. Sometimes I’ll set up a board and break it the same day, sometimes I’ll ride a board for three days and it will still be good. I think the ground quality at the spots plays a heavy role in how long your boards last. If the ground is rough, it’s going to tear up your board during just one session.
JF: On filming trips I usually go through a board every three to five days, unless it breaks or gets really chipped up.
Who do you think will have the best part?
ZW: Jamie isn’t human and Midler is just out of his mind!
AM: I’m not really sure. Everyone put in a lot of work for this video and the tricks that were going down were all next-level. I guess we’ll just have to wait for the video to find out!
JF: I definitely think Midler’s part is going to be the most insane one: the tricks he did were crazy. I’ve seen him work for a lot of those tricks.
How did filming You Good? compare to projects you've worked on in the past for your other sponsors?
ZW: Honestly it felt the same. We had all the homies and good times on the road. Not much more you can ask for!
AM: I would say it was a little different working on this project, because for the most part there would only be three of us skating on the trips. Usually, we’ll have a van packed with, like, seven or eight dudes.
JF: The main difference is that it was a small crew. Usually you have a whole team going on trips, but since the video only focuses on the three of us, the trips were really mellow.
Now that this is wrapped, what have you got coming up in 2020?
ZW: We've got a bunch of Olympic contests leading up to summer of 2020. A few other little projects here and there and skating with my friends working on [Illegal Civilisation video] Godspeed with Davonte Jolly.
AM: My plan for 2020 is going to be pretty similar to this past year: I’m going to be traveling to a lot of contests, but in-between all of that I’ll be filming for Illegal Civilisation’s new full-length video Godspeed.
JF: Just doing the same thing I always do! Going from one project to the next. As of now I’m working on the Deathwish video, that'll be coming out around the middle of 2020.
