Some projects take time to happen, especially when they involve climbing one of the most challenging mountains in Brazil. The timing has to be perfect and the team must be solely focused on the job in hand. With its 650m face and a difficulty level of 8a, the Planeta dos Macacos route had never been completed from the bottom before the perfect team – Felipe Camargo and Sasha DiGiulian – came to tackle it.

Climbing Pedra Riscada isn’t a small challenge: the conditions have to be right, and the preparation includes bedding down for a night in the middle of the climb. The rain didn’t make things any easier, but for Sasha it was a great experience nonetheless:
The portaledge was like a five-star hotel for me. The best part, of course, was to wake up with that amazing view.

The route was first opened in 2012 by a group of Chilean climbers. But no one had actually managed to climb the whole thing. So when Felipe heard word of this new route, he started his search to find the perfect partner in crime, and had to wait a year for Sasha to finish college so she could devote herself fully to the ascent.
As the saying goes: good things come to those who wait!
