Originally from just outside Boston, Massachusetts, AJ has burst onto the basketball scene and is among the most heralded young hoopers around. He's currently beginning his college career as a freshman at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah.
The bright lights have been on him since Day One. As a high-school freshman, he was the Massachusetts Player of the Year, averaging 19.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.5 blocks per game.
Dybantsa transferred to Prolific Prep in California at the end of his freshman year. In July 2023, he led the Nike Peach Jam in scoring with 25.8 points per game. He then went on to win a gold medal with USA Basketball’s U16 team in Mexico, scoring 12 points in the gold medal game and averaging 13.8 points for the tournament.
“Playmaker first, two-way player,” Dybantsa says of his personal scouting report. “Defense and offense can do a little bit of everything: rebound, score, pass, finish. Just a team player overall and unselfish.”
