This Monster Hunter: World armour will help you beat the strongest foes
Hit the high rank and this armour set could be yours, but be prepared to grind.
Just got through Monster Hunter World’s Low Rank quests and finding yourself baffled by the challenges of High Rank? Because there are so many different styles of play, there is no single greatest armour set in the game, but we’ve found a certain build that will blow away even the strongest of foes. Warning: it will require some significant grinding!
The primary basis of this set is built around the High Rank Odogaron Alpha armour set. As you may know, when you hit High Rank in Monster Hunter, each monster has two types of armour set, but for the purposes of this particular build, we’re going to focus on the Odogaron Alpha set, with the exception of the Body, where we’re going to need that additional gem slot for Dragon Resistance.
This set is focused around two primary skills which should bring your attack up significantly – Critical Eye and Weakness Exploit. Both of these skills are set to increase a stat called Affinity, which should lie in your weapon, and increase the additional damage that you’ll deal outside of the main damage stat. We’re going to attempt to increase the Affinity stat up to 70% above the weapon’s normal capabilities.

So, how do you get this sweet Affinity bonus? A lot of High Rank Odogaron investigations. Go over to the Ecological Research Team in Astera and look for a High Rank Odogaron Investigation with a Gold Reward at the end, and be sure to stock up on all manner of traps and Astera Jerky in order to mitigate the Odogaron’s Bleed Damage. Run these as much as you can until you have enough to make the Greaves, Coil, Arms and Body armour for the Odogaron. Don’t worry about making the head armour just yet, as we’ve got another little trick to boost your attack.

After you’ve assembled the aforementioned Odogaron Set, you should have the following Skills:
- Odogaron Mastery LV2
- Odogaron Mastery LV4
- Critical Eye LV4
- Speed Sharpening LV3
- Constitution LV1
- Quick Sheath LV1
The LV2 and LV4 Odogaron Mastery Skills allow you to deal more attack power upon Draw Attacks, and grant you 60 second weapon sharpness immunity, while Critical Eye is boosted to +20%. Speed Sharpening should allow you to sharpen with a shorter animation, with Constitution and Quick Sheath being a few less important skills.
Not too bad for farming that terrible meat dog, eh? Well, It’s about to get even better. After farming for Odogaron, you’re going to want to head back to the smith, and craft a Master’s Charm, which will further boost your Critical Eye skill – this can be upgraded further so that it can enable up to +3 to Critical Eye, but for the purposes of this set we will leave it at +1 for now.

Now you’ve got some stronger gear, we’re going to focus on an additional skill, which will bring this armour set from great to incredible, and that’s going after the Nergigante for a Dragonking Eyepatch Alpha. You’re going to need a High Commendation, some Dragonvein Crystals and Immortal Dragonscales from Nergigante and the Elder’s Recess area. This is actually pretty easy to forge, especially now that you’re decked out with the boosts from the Odogaron Gear.
Once you’ve forged the Dragonking Eyepatch, you’ll have gained an additional armour skill – Weakness Exploit LV2. If you’re lucky, you can fill up the decoration slot in this armour with a Weakness Exploit Gem, bringing it up and maxing it out to LV3.
Weakness Exploit is best used when targeting weak points on monsters, which will then activate the skill and give you an additional 50% with the LV 3 Skill. Combined with Critical Eye LV5, you should have a higher chance of dealing massive damage to a monster in its weakest areas. This combination is extremely potent, especially since you are able to upgrade the Charm in this set to bring Critical Eye all the way to +7, which will give you another 10% toward your affinity stats.
