The King of Hard Enduro Graham Jarvis fought back in style to take victory in Saturday's Forest Race section of Red Bull Sea to Sky.
10th in Friday's Beach Race, Jarvis quickly found his groove when the race headed for the forestry and mountains surrounding Kemer, Turkey. Slicing his way through traffic, Jarvis ended the 55-kilometre loop 16 seconds clear of Jonny Walker on adjusted time.
Walker – second to start the Forest Race – reeled in Taylor Robert after the midway point in the race and pushed on to the finish. Although stopping the clock at 1hr 33mins and 10 secs, it wasn't enough to beat Jarvis.
Despite having just turned 40 years old, Andreas Lettenbichler shows no sign of slowing down. He brought his KTM home in third. Fifth in the Beach Race, 17 year old South African Travis Teasdale continued to turn heads in this the fifth edition of the Red Bull Sea to Sky by improving one position to fourth.
Faced with the unenviable task of opening the trail, Beach Race winner Taylor Robert claimed a top-five result finishing one second behind Teasdale. Delivering one of the most heroic rides of the day, Paul Bolton dislocated one of his toes 20 minutes into the race, but amazingly finished ninth. He vows to not only start the Mountain Race but finish it too.
The fifth edition of the Red Bull Sea to Sky has seen an invasion of the youth. Hard Enduro's next generation are giving the established elite a serious run for their money. Wade Young, Travis Teasdale, Manuel Lettenbichler and Bradley Cox – all under 19 years of age – are hungry to succeed.
Wade Young – a rookie at the Red Bull Sea to Sky – is targeting his second Hard Enduro podium of 2014…
"This is actually my first time racing in Turkey. Finishing on the podium at Red Bull Romaniacs was a huge result for me so I just want to try and keep that momentum rolling here."
Making his international Hard Enduro debut Travis Teasdale is another up-and-coming talent from South Africa…
"This is my first international race so I've got no real expectation results wise – I just want to learn and finish. The terrain is a little similar to back home in South Africa so that helps. I was delighted with fifth in the Beach Race and then fourth in the Forest Race was incredible. I'll give it my best tomorrow."
Manuel Lettenbichler – son of Andreas Lettenbichler – is the youngest rider in the Red Bull Sea to Sky at 16 years of age…
"Obviously with my father racing I wanted to race Hard Enduro too. I got my first taste of it earlier this year when I finished 18th at the Red Bull Hare Scramble so my dad let me come here too. It's a really cool race – a mixture between a holiday and racing. It will be tough but I know I can finish. As long as I do that I'll be happy."
Son of the legendary Alfie Cox, 16-year-old Bradley Cox is sampling his first taste of enduro…
"Normally I race motocross so enduro is new to me. But I wanted to give this race a go. I love the vibe here – it's so relaxed. All the riders hang out between the races. I had a blast at the Beach Race – that was more my style. The Forest Race was tough so if I can finish tomorrow it will be an incredible result for me."
