Apex Legends’ map is absolutely huge and each area is filled with different kinds of loot that players can use to heighten their chances of survival. However, not all areas in Kings Canyon are worth landing in – in fact, there are plenty of places that you should try to avoid if you want the best weapons and gear.
Picking a good loot location is incredibly important and we’ve already revealed the 5 best places to land in Apex Legends, but what about the areas you should actively avoid? After all, games are ultimately won and lost depending on your jump location. Landing in a quieter zone may increase your survivability in the early game, but the chances of you finding enough loot to share between you and your squadmates are incredibly low.
Statistically, these are the five worst places to land in Apex Legends – avoid these and you can increase your chances of netting yourself a dominant win in the arena.
1. The Shattered Forest
- 93% low-tier loot
- 4% mid-tier loot
- 3% high-tier loot
The Shattered Forest has the worst loot drops in the entire game. This desolate area can be found on the eastern side of the map and offers scarce amounts of loot and cover for those unfortunate enough to land here. To make matters even worse, the Shattered Forest is only a short sprint away from the Swamps, an area known for its prized weapons and gear. Those that land in the Swamps will be looking for some easy kills and the Shattered Forest is the perfect place to snag some early-game tags. The forest’s bombshell craters and burnt trees make it incredibly easy to pick off unaware squads.
As a result, getting to safety is incredibly difficult, and even if you make it out of the forest alive, there aren’t too many options for further looting. By the time you make it across the vast open field, most players would have already looted the surrounding Wetlands, Farm, Hydro Dam, and nearby Swamp. Your fate is pretty much sealed if you land in the Shattered Forest, so be sure to avoid this area if you wish to avoid an early demise.
2. East Settlement
- 92% low-tier loot
- 3% mid-tier loot
- 5% high-tier loot
East Settlement is part of the slum location in Apex Legends. This tiny settlement is made up of four ramshackle buildings and features a Jump Balloon that players can use to fly to nearby areas. The overall scarcity of loot and size of the East Settlement makes it an unpopular choice among those that wish to get their hands on Apex Legends’ ultra-rare weapons.
With only a handful of buildings, there’s very little chance that you and your fellow teammates will find anything of real use. In most cases, you may not even find a gun, and even if you do, it will likely be a Mozambique, P2020, RE-45, or EVA-8 shotgun.
The East Settlement also happens to be situated just west of Skull Town (mid-tier loot) and south-east of the notorious Water Treatment facility (high-tier loot). Going to either of these places isn’t really an option, especially if you only have a pistol. These ever-popular places are usually stripped of their loot and many players will be geared up and ready for action, so it’s better to avoid confrontation and try to make your way over to the Market. The Market is located directly north of the East Settlement and offers players with much better loot (69% low-tier, 20, mid-tier, 11% high-tier).
3. Landing Pad
- 91% low-tier loot
- 5% mid-tier loot
- 4% high-tier loot
The Landing Pad is arguably one of the worst drop locations due to its proximity to the Water Treatment Plant, Southern Watchtower and Repulsor. All three of these locations feature the very best gear in the game and surround the Landing Pad, making it an extremely volatile area. Players that land here often get caught in the crossfire as squads from the Treatment Plant, Watchtower and Repulsor fight it out for the best loadouts. The sheer volume of players landing in the surrounding areas means that you’ll quickly be outnumbered and outgunned, so avoid hitting that eject button until you have cleared this area.
The chances of you and your squadmates getting enough gear to share between the three of you is incredibly low and with so many nearby threats, your options for looting are very limited. There’s a reason why Landing Pad has a Respawn Beacon within its compound, and with so many gunfights going on within the surrounding vicinity, you can expect plenty of well-armed foes to make their way over in an attempt to revive their fallen comrades.
4. Artillery Underpass
- 91% low-tier loot
- 5% mid-tier loot
- 4% high-tier loot
Artillery Underpass is sandwiched between Artillery Battery and Watchtower North, both of which have high-tier loot drops. The underpass connects both these locations to one another, making it a great place for players to quickly snaffle up vast amounts of gear from one area before using the underpass to loot the next.
Artillery Battery features two large warehouses and plenty of military buildings that hide lots of high-tier loot within. If you don’t find the gun you’re looking for here, then chances are you’ll find it in the northern Watchtower. However, Artillery Underpass offers very little loot and the popular nature of this area can lead to some incredibly frustrating early-game deaths.
The narrow nature of the underpass means that if you don’t manage to get a weapon, you’re easy pickings for other players. Squads from both Artillery Battery and Watchtower North will be aiming to use the underpass, so expect plenty of gunfights and eliminations to take place here. The chances of getting some decent loot from the surrounding areas may be high, but avoid Artillery Underpass if you’re not ready for a fight.
5. Hydro Dam
- 85% low-tier loot
- 8% mid-tier loot
- 7% high-tier loot
Hydro Dam is part of the industrial zone in Apex Legends and it’s connected to the Repulsor via two bridges. This massive dam may have some fairly decent loot drop rates, but its connection to the high-tier rooms of the Repulsor make it incredibly popular amongst other players. If you drop here, you’re likely to encounter numerous squads and will have to battle it out for the best drops.
Unlike the other locations on this list, Hydro Dam’s general size and overall loot percentages make it rather appealing, but you’re almost always better off risking it in the Repulsor area if you want to get the best gear.
Numerous people land here and you can quickly find yourself surrounded by squads armed to the teeth with the high-tier loot they have found in the nearby Repulsor, Watchtower, Water Treatment, and Swamp locations. As a result, getting out of this area unscathed is highly unlikely and your options of escape are limited. Fighting through the above areas will greatly decrease your chances of winning, while cutting through the open planes of the western Bridges area can be extremely risky.
