Asphalt 9: Legends is the ninth instalment in the hugely popular mobile arcade racing series. This new edition is loaded with 48 expertly detailed cars and new realistic graphics, making it one of the most beautiful mobile games currently on the market.
With the ability to race against other players online, there are several ways of getting the upper hand over your opponents. Here are five tips that will help you remain at the top of the podium.
1. Select a control style
With several different driving options within the game, it’s important to find the one that suits your style of play. The new Touchdrive method means that the only things you have to focus on are when you want to use your Nitro, when to drift and which path to take during the race. Simply swipe left or right on the screen. If you want a more immersive experience, tilting the device to steer and having full control of acceleration and braking is the way to go.
2. Master Nitro usage
Mistiming your Nitro boost can often mean the difference between first and second place. You can use the Nitro normally to get a small boost of speed but the biggest possible boost is known as the Perfect Nitro. Tap the Nitro button once and wait for it to hit the small blue line before tapping it a second time to get a much longer and more powerful boost.
If you’re in a situation where you’re closing in on the finish and need a more powerful boost than the Perfect Nitro, then the Pulse Nitro is the technique to use. Once you have a full Nitro bar, tap the button and tap it again at the purple line which appears just before the blue line. The Pulse Nitro offers a bigger speed boost than the Perfect Nitro which is great for that last ditch overtake.
3. Collect flags
Acquiring flags throughout Asphalt 9 is the way to progress from one season to the next and they can be used to unlock more game modes. Earn 10 flags and you will gain access to Clubs, Asphalt’s version of guilds. Get 15 flags and it will enable you to compete in limited-time races where you have the chance to win special prizes. These races may be harder than the ones on the campaign so make sure your car is upgraded. Once you collect 20 flags, you’ll have access to the multiplayer mode where you can compete against other racers from around the world.
4. Remember to upgrade
Upgrading your cars is essential if you are going to be battling it out for the victory on both single and multiplayer modes. Ideally you will want to upgrade your car so it’s a few points above the recommended rating for the track you are racing on. If you want to improve the speed of the car, focus on upgrading the Top Speed and Nitro but don’t forget to upgrade the Acceleration and Handling elements of the car in order to manoeuvre the car easier on track.
5. Replay races for extra cash
The more upgrades you equip to your car, the more expensive the upgrades become so it is important to keep an eye on your finances. An easy way to make some quick money if you’re just short of your next upgrade is to replay races that you have already completed. You’ll get less money than you did the first time around but it’s a great way of getting extra cash.
