The best 5-star teams in FIFA 20
Whether you're playing co-op in the same room or just really lazy, these teams are good to go.
Sometimes, you don't want to mess around signing a superstar team, fiddling with FIFA Ultimate Team or keeping track of who is top dog when it comes to FIFA's constantly evolving meta.
Sometimes, you just want to win, sitting down on the couch to whip your friend. To that end, we've got the lowdown on the 10 best teams in FIFA 20, each of which boast a 5-star rating, but are each excellent in a slightly different way. The ratings here are based on the base version of the game, not taking into account the weekly live data, which tweaks teams slightly based on their real-life form. Either way, these tips should still be partially accurate, although might change a little over time.
1. Barcelona

In real life, Barcelona are being dragged to victory by Lionel Messi every time they take to the pitch. In FIFA 20, Barca is the business, as the best team in the game.
Barca's biggest problem in previous games was their lack of depth, but that's been addressed with the addition of players like Ousmane Dembele and Samuel Umtiti, who are largely relegated to the bench. With a front line of Messi, Greizmann and Suarez (94, 89 and 89 Overall stats, respectively) it's easy to see where the 89 Attacking stat comes from. This 4-3-3 line-up will roll over an ill-prepared team.
To get the best out of these guys you're going to want to lower your width slightly and play lots of short passes and movement, aiming to pull opposing players out of position and then push through them.
2. Real Madrid

Barcelona's big rivals, Real Madrid, may not be bringing the magic in the real world, but within FIFA they're still every bit their La Liga rivals.
They have the joint-best midfield in the game, with the 90 Strength and 89 Aggression Casemiro acting as a midfield hard-man (with 87 Overall) to back up Luka Modric and Toni Kroos (90 and 88).
With some careful play, you can easily freeze out the middle of the pitch. Bring Bale on over and Vinicius Jr. on the right wing and you'll take advantage of Bale's much-increased technical ability, and you should have a solid line-up, useful if you want to have your own El Classico and go toe-to-toe with Barca yourself.
3. Manchester City

In a lot of ways, Man City's place in FIFA 20 fits the archetype of a top team: they play 4-3-3, the starting 11 is stuffed to the gills with top quality players, and they've got a tremendous amount of team depth to play with.
City is the highest-rated team in the English Premier League, and also one of the strongest out of the box, requiring hardly any tweaks to get them ready to play at full tempo. Just remember to make use of the depth of talent that's relegated to Manchester City's bench, and you should be able to outlast any team without too many problems. A strong attack and the joint-highest Midfield stat makes them a joy to play, and while their defensive line is a little weaker than most, it's easy to forget that with their relentless attacking ability.
4. Piemonte Calcio

It's fair to have never heard of Piemonte Calcio, despite their status as one of the best teams in the world. The naff-named super-team is actually Juventus in disguise, after rival football firm PES snagged the Juve license, meaning they couldn't appear in FIFA 20.
Still, just because the entire team is wearing different shorts doesn't mean they're not brilliant. Not-Juventus has the second best attack in the game, with Ronaldo (93 Overall) throwing his weight around to get you goals.
Don't be afraid to tweak the team, though. Calcio has a blast door of a defence line-up that should keep out all but the most persistent attackers, and more depth than any other team on this list, meaning you can chop and change players based on your personal preferences.

5. Bayern

Bayern's inclusion here is a bit surprising, considering their dominance last year was shaken up by a close run-in with Borussia Dortmund, who nearly beat them to the Bundesliga title.
However, not only are Bayern still one of the top teams in FIFA 20, but they've also got a killer strike-team of Robert Lewandowski (89 Overall) and Thomas Muller (86 Overall), to head up a team that you can easily move into a 4-2-2-2 for some aggressive and entertaining football.
A strong, wide midfield should muddle up FIFA 20's new smarter AI, who will often make forward runs when you're not expecting it.
6. Liverpool

Liverpool might be a little behind Premier League rivals Man City this year, reflecting their spot at number two after a heartbreaking campaign that saw Liverpool edged out by City after an incredible season for both teams.
But also, Salah has finally gotten the love he deserved from the bods at FIFA's balancing team, meaning Salah is now rocking a 90 Overall rating. Pair him with the lightning fast Mane (88 Overall) and you've got a great attacking outfit. Meanwhile, Van Dijk (90 Overall) will keep your backend secure.
Taking advantage of Liverpool's innate speed by making runs with Salah and Mane on constant attack plays, while replacing captain Henderson with Keita (82 Overall) off the bench, will make you more competitive: his dribbling skills put him ahead of Henderson, who is a better player on paper but doesn't fit with Liverpool's style as well.
7. Paris Saint-Germain F.C.

French superstars PSG were a no-brainer for the top team spot on FIFA 20, as they're totally dominant in France, and a constant force throughout Europe.
PSG's defence isn't incredible, despite captain Silva (87), so you're going to want to hold things up in midfield. Luckily, you've got the mighty Neymar Jr (92) prowling around, and a wealth of solid options that even the game can't fit them all in, even with an attacking 4-4-3 foundation by default.
The smart choice here is to experiment. Despite his 86 rating, Angel di Maria is comfortably one of the weakest options here, so you can replace him on the left with Neymar Jr – and then fill that attacking midfield spot with Draxler, Sarabia, Gueye or Parades, as the mood strikes you.
PSG is one of the more flexible teams for couch co-op play, because of the sheer range of midfield options, just remember it can all fall apart if your opponent gets into the attacking third.
8. Tottenham Hotspur

Whatever you make of Harry Kane and his occasional droughts and wobbles, he's the best striker in FIFA 20 with a mighty 89 Overall.
Spurs fans, rejoice. This is the first time Spurs has hit a 5-star rating and made it into the top 10 list for the game, while former rivals like Arsenal or Manchester United are nowhere to be seen.
However, Spurs don't have a huge amount of quality on the pitch. Players like Son and Eriksen are all about the attack, but playing with Spurs is very much a non-flashy game of getting the ball to Kane and letting him work: not dissimilar from England's entire strategy for the 2018 World Cup, to be honest.
9. Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund are incredibly well-balanced – competent in every area of the pitch even if that means they don't really excel anywhere.
However, every area of the pitch has some building blocks to work with. Hummels (87) is in your defence, while your wings are covered by Hazard (Eden's brother, at 82) and Sancho (84), while you've got Reus (88) in a CAM role, although he's just as happy playing as a striker if you need him.
Dortmund have some real flexibility, but do yourself a solid and switch them from their base 4-2-3-1 Wide formating into something a little more attacking focused. A much better fit is a 4-3-3 Attack – and will let Sacho tear it up as a real midfielder, rather than worrying about boring things like defence.
10. Atletico Madrid

The weakest of our top 10, Atletico Madrid, is still one of the best teams in the entire game, and Jan Oblak is the best keeper in the whole thing, with a 91 Overall rating.
Play Atletico in a classic 4-4-2 style, and take advantage of Joao Felix (80), who has five-star skill moves, making him a monster to try and lock down, even if he doesn't have the raw ability of some of his contemporaries.
Atletico is a decent team, but outside of Oblak acting like an immovable object in front of your net, the team is somewhat uninspiring, although they will get the job done.
