Public workshops are an important new addition to Fallout 76. They make it easy to collect scraps, which are necessary to build everything from expensive structures and better weapons to armour. At some of the workshops, you can also use the facilities to produce a wide range of valuable materials.
The process of claiming workshops is relatively straightforward. All you need to do is approach an area with a workshop in it and an event will appear on screen. This will involve clearing out all the enemies in the immediate area and claiming the workstation at the centre for a handful of caps. Once you’ve done this, you can build with the workshop’s own resource pool and place down extractors to gather nearby materials, as well as create defences to fend off enemy waves.
The difficult part of all this, though, is knowing where to find each workshop and which resources can be harvested from which locations. What follows is a complete list of all the workshops in the game, region by region, as well as an outline of the resources you can find there. Hopefully, this will make farming scrap in the game that little bit easier.

Ash Heap

The smoggy location at the bottom of the map has three workshops in it that you can claim.
Beckley Mining Exhibit
One of these is Beckley Mining Exhibit, which is situated in the bottom left of the Ash Heap. It is a mining museum that is great for harvesting supplies of food, crystal, water, gold and oil.

Mount Blair
Finally there’sMount Blair. This workshop is positioned at the very centre of the Ash Heap. It is near to a huge mining drill, so it is almost impossible to miss if you’re on higher ground. You’ll be able to collect food and water at this location, as well as ore – that is, if you can get past the army of mole miners guarding the entrance.

Cranberry Bog

Abandoned Bog Town
Cranberry Bog has only one public workshop in it, which is the Abandoned Bog Town.
This area is difficult to clear out, due to the roaming Scorchbeasts, but if you manage to take your claim on it, it provides a steady supply of food, silver, water, gold, concrete and oil.

The Forest

The first area that players will emerge in after leaving Vault 76, The Forest is home to seven workshops, making it one of the best areas to set up camp and claim land.
Billings Homestead
On the west side of The Forest, you’ll find Billings Homestead. This area can be claimed to harvest food, water, fertiliser, crystal, gold and copper.

Lakeside Cabins is in an area to the south-east of Camp McClintock. It contains deposits of crystal, lead, silver and wood, and can be used to create a supply of food and water. If you want to stock up on any of the materials listed above, it’s well worth paying a visit.

Poseidon Energy Plant Yard
You can find the Poseidon Energy Plant Yard at the southernmost point of The Forest, near the Ash Heap. It's a good site to harvest food, fusion cores, water, lead, aluminium, nuclear waste and concrete.

Sunshine Meadows Industrial Farm
Sunshine Meadows Industrial Farm is situated on the west side of the map, north of Billings Homestead. Here you can scavenge food, water, junk, aluminium and concrete. Interestingly, it is also the only area in the game where you can produce packaged food. To do this you need to get the production line inside the food packaging factory back up and running – a couple of power generators should do the trick.

Wade Airport
You’ll find Wade Airport to the south-west of the Lakeside Cabins. Super Mutants patrol the area more often than not, making it a challenging workshop to claim at the start of the game. Once you do though, you’ll be rewarded with an edible food supply and clean water, in addition to silver, copper and oil deposits.

Thunder Mountain Power Plant
The Thunder Mountain Power Plant is situated near the lake to the north-east of the mire. The area is usually filled with Scorched enemies, which shouldn’t be too hard to get rid of provided you have some decent weapons to hand. Once you’re given the all clear, you will be able to put down some extractors and other machinery to farm food, water, fusion cores, crystal, nuclear waste, steel and wood.

Federal Disposal Field HZ-21
The Federal Disposal Field HZ-21 to the far south of the map is another area frequently infested with Super Mutants. It's a highly irradiated area, so it's wise to wear some kind of protection against radiation if you decide to visit. It's worth it though, with it possible to gather food, water, acid, nuclear waste and oil here.
