Flying Lotus, aka Los Angeles beatmaker Steve Ellison, has won critical acclaim with his own woozy future hip-hop albums, not to mention the excellent records he releases on his Brainfeeder imprint.
But Ellison has also made a foray into moving image, launching his own production company Brainfeeder Films – and his debut feature film Kuso, has shocked critics. One publication, The Verge, called the film “the grossest movie ever made”.
“Some gross-out films are one-note, but Kuso finds new ways to test viewers’ fortitude,” writes Chris Plante, adding that a number of audience members walked out throughout the screening at the Sundance Film Festival. Warning: the review features copious spoilers, which are not for the faint-hearted.
The film is yet to get an official UK release date, but you can watch the trailer here.
