If you want to figure out how to solve a Rubik’s Cube, you’ve come to the right place. This 7 step process will guide you from frustrated beginner to all-conquering master.
We’ve all surely been baffled by the Rubik’s Cube at some point in our lives, left frustrated at a failure to complete it.
But hard as it might seem to believe, solving one of the world’s most famous puzzles is actually easier than you might think.
In your own bid to solve the six sides with six colours, follow our straightforward seven-step guide to finally put a mystery – potentially dating back to childhood – to bed.
01
Solve the white cross
The first step on the quest for an overall solution is to solve the white cross, effectively starting by doing a daisy (a yellow centre with white around it). Then move the white edges to the opposite side, which will give you the white cross.
02
Complete the white side
Having achieved step one, now the goal is to fill in the white corners for a whole white side, beginning by turning the cube over so the white cross is on the bottom. This part involves a fair bit of twisting, but the video also covers common problems that crop up in completing the white side.
03
Second layer edges
Next up is solving the second layer edges of your Rubik’s Cube. The start to that process is to search for an edge piece in the top layer that doesn’t feature yellow. By the end of this step you'll be able to see some real progress.
04
Create a yellow cross
The trick here is to create a yellow cross on the top layer. When you get to this stage there are a number of possible situations but getting there has different starting points. This should be one of the simpler steps in the process.
05
Match up the yellow edges
Moving on to step five, the key on this occasion is learning to build the yellow cross to ensure the yellow edges all match up. Again, there are a few different scenarios that you may face initially, but all are solvable in a small number of turns.
06
Rearrange the yellow corners
This time we will discover how to rearrange the yellow corners so they are all in the right place but not necessarily the right way around. This step is all about 'making the line and breaking the line' – possibly on multiple occasions.
07
Orientate the yellow corners
And finally this is the point of how to orientate the yellow corners in your bid to complete the Rubik’s Cube starting by turning the cube over with yellow at the bottom. This final stage is where the 'sexy move' comes into its own.
And that's it. Simple, right?
