Watch Conor Maguire lead a star-studded crew in huge, perfect Mullaghmore
During a recent swell at Ireland's most famous big wave, Mullaghmore, local charger Conor Maguire, along with a pack of other Irish big wave surfers, put on a show that won't soon be forgotten.
Things are turning green and warm on the Emerald Isle right now, but let's take a moment to look back at a handful of weeks, when Ireland's greenest winter commodity was still alive and well. We're, of course, talking about Mullaghmore – not only Ireland's most famous big wave, but also one of the most recognisable big waves in the world.
The trick with scoring Mullaghmore has a lot to do with luck. While big winter swells are consistently slamming into the Emerald Isle's rugged western coastline between autumn and spring, oftentimes it's the weather that can ruin things. But when wind and wave work together – as you'll see in the player at the top of the page – you'd better drop everything and race to Mullaghmore.
When you get there, you're guaranteed to run into local professional big wave surfer Conor Maguire, who has made a name for himself as one of Ireland's fiercest chargers. Along with Conor is a crew of equally brave local chargers, like Ollie O'Flaherty, Barry Mottershead, Peter Conroy, Enda Curran, and John Monahan. Also on hand were honourary locals – guys who hate missing a big Mully swell – Will Skudin, Tom Lowe, Nic Von Rupp, and Rafael Tapia.
Not quite as crazy, but equally as impressive, are Alex Laurel and Gary McCall, who operated the main cameras at the famously foggy and treacherous big wave venue, along with Tim Bonython, Clem McInerney and Ian Mitchinson. Clearly, it takes a team to beam back to the world the full glory of Mullaghmore – and lucky for us, that's what we've got right here in this edit. Enjoy!
