Titans of Mavericks, an event that stands alone in surfing, both in format and reputation, will run this Friday, February 12 in Half Moon Bay, California.
A beast of a west-northwest swell will arrive late on Thursday night, and at sun-up on February 12 they’re expecting to see waves in the 20ft range [6m] lining up to the horizon.
The one-day event will see 24 of the world’s best big-wave surfers, your Titans, head out at first light to see who, at the end of the day, will be the last man standing.
This announcement comes on the heels of the official green light for the Eddie Aikau Invitational at Waimea, guaranteeing a big week in surf. Each event will capitalise on this freakish El Niño swell and, after such an active winter in the big-wave world, expect the competitors to raise the bar to historic levels.
Clear your calendar, because Friday promises to be a day to remember, and you can watch it all on Red Bull TV.
Contests at Mavericks are not a new thing, but the Titans of Mavericks event is a new look from what we’ve seen in the past.
The comp operates independently of any other tour or event series, and in doing so offers locals and freelance chargers the chance to tackle Mavs with only three other guys out and plenty of cash on the line.

Tune in live on Red Bull TV to watch the Titans of Mavericks event, streamed direct to you on Friday, February 12.
