The McLaren MP4-12Cs of Sébastien Loeb Racing were back in action this weekend as the second stop of the FIA GT Series took place at Zolder.
A troubled weekend for the car of Sébastien Loeb and Alvaro Parente was compensated by the strong performance of their team-mates Mike Parisy and Andi Zuber both in qualifying and the championship race.
A turbo issue outside of the team’s control forced car #9 (Parente and Loeb) to commence qualifying at the back of the grid. More misfortune came when Parente incurred a drive-through penalty before Loeb had to pit the car due to a broken shock absorber.
The news was better for car #10 (Parisy and Zuber) who battled at the business end of qualifying before finishing the session in fourth place. The duo of drivers then went onto repeat their fourth place finish in the weekend’s main race to claim precious championship points for Sébastien Loeb Racing.
“The championship race was good,” remarked Andi Zuber. “I had a good start and I did battle with the Audis. It was a little close at the first corner as I was on the outside. Then I focused on keeping in touch with the leaders who are very fast. Our car handled well, even better than at Nogaro and the team did a good job.”
Meanwhile Parente and Loeb started the championship race in 17th after their tough qualifying session and found it hard going in the middle of the pack. The pair never threatened the podium but leave Zolder knowing that they produced a series of lap times on a par with the leaders.
