Red Bull Crashed Ice will be taking over Stormont on February 20th and 21st but there’s a whole city to experience before and after the thrill of the track. We’ve picked through some of our favourite parts of the city to find attractions for all ages.
Titanic QuarterBelfast’s shipyards were one of the most industrious places on earth at a time but the city will always be synonymous with its most ill-fated voyage. The Titanic quarter reclaims much of that history with a museum dedicated to the SS Titanic and if you fancy a taste of what it would have been like to board that famous ship, the last remaining of the White Star Line is docked in the harbour. See if you can resist the temptation to stand at the stern for your own “I’m the king of the world” moment.
Filthy McNasty’sDon’t be fooled by the name, the secret garden at Filthy McNasty’s is one of the sparkliest pieces of Belfast’s nightlife. It will be hosting the Official Athlete’s After Party on Friday and Saturday after Crashed Ice.
Oh Yeah Music CentreBelfast’s divisions are well known but pride in its music history unites the city. A stronghold of punk and alternative culture throughout the Troubles, music has provided an outlet for frustrations and enthusiasms. Located in an old Whiskey warehouse, the Oh Yeah music centre sheds a light over the city’s history from Van Morrison to The Undertones to Snow Patrol and beyond. It’s a testament to the old adage that inspiration can strikes strongest in the darkest of times.
St. George’s Market- Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday No weekend trip to Belfast would be complete without a stroll through St. George’s Market which offers a look across the city’s arts and crafts, fashions and foods. From cheeky fishmongers to hippy jewellery makers, the market gives a taste of life in Belfast in more ways than one.
Made In Belfast restaurantsWith locations in the Cathedral quarter and on Talbot Street, Made in Belfast have been standouts in the city for the last few years. With high-quality, no-nonsense food and an ever-changing decor of antique and retro furniture it’s well worth the trip to refuel.
Aunt Sandra's Candy FactoryFulfil your childhood dream of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a trip to Aunt Sandra’s where you can sample handmade chocolates, fudges and honeycomb.
Pub tours Like all Irish cities the humble public house has been a part of Belfast through the ages. With a number of pubs which provide genuine historic interest, you can see some of the craftsmanship from years gone by. That’s one excuse anyway.
Taxi tour of the murals Belfast natives wear their colours with pride and murals have a unique place in the city. They’re not always the most inclusive pieces of art but they are a great look into the city’s history. As the city has changed so too have the subjects of murals and many now celebrate recent cultural and sporting triumphs while others look at conflict, religion and politics. Hop in a taxi and ask the driver to take you on a trip around the city.

Belfast GiantsIn their 15th year, the Belfast Giants have lived up to their motto: “In the land of the Giants, everyone is equal.” Matches at the Odyssey Arena are electric and on Saturday the 21st they take on their Celtic rivals the Edinburgh Capitals. Last time out they beat the Scots 6-3 on their home rink so it should be a game to match the atmosphere.   Tickets are available here
T13 Urban Sports centre Skateboards, BMXs and DJs create a real rabble in the T13 centre located in the Titanic quarter. You can rent a board or bike, drop in on parkour or breakdancing classes or just hang around in the cafe.
