If you want to get the edge over your opponents in FIFA 19 Pro Clubs, you’ll need to build your player correctly. Everything from the height of your created character to their proficiency at skill moves can make the difference between winning and losing. Assign your Skill Points in the wrong way, and you’ll pay for it on the pitch.
The majority of teams competing across Pro Clubs’ 10 divisions are made up of two or three players, many of which adopt the same few positions. We’ve picked five popular areas to focus on – the following tips will help you maximise your player’s effectiveness.
Goalkeeper
Key Traits: GK Handling, GK Reflexes, GK Diving
If you’re a fan of playing in goal, it’s worth sticking to most of last year’s key principles. The big difference in FIFA 19 is height – you don't necessarily need to make your keeper as tall as possible. We’ve found it more beneficial to balance this figure around the 6ft 3in mark. Combine it with a relatively low weight, and you’ll be able to adapt to quick attacking moves.
Naturally, it’s important to utilise all of the Player Traits for goalkeeping, focusing on handling, reflexes, diving and positioning in particular. Assign the rest of your points to passing, while good ball control can also prove useful.
Central Defender
Key Traits: Acceleration, Stand Tackle, Strength
Having a good physical presence is key when playing the centre-back role, so you’ll want to increase your height and weight in this instance. We suggest opting for a height of around 6ft 2" and weight of 198lbs to maximise your strength and jumping without sacrificing too much pace or agility, which are also important attributes to consider.
You’ll naturally want to work on improving your core defensive stats via the Player Traits screen. It’s advisable to put the rest of your points into acceleration and strength, while short passing and heading accuracy are also influential in this position.
Central Attacking Midfielder
Key Traits: Ball Control, Dribbling, Long Shots
There are multiple schools of thought when it comes to creating a CAM. Many opt for overly short and agile players in this position, but we prefer a bit more balance in FIFA 19 due to the increased reliance on strength. As such, our suggestion is to stick to around 5ft 10" and anything from 176-198lbs when playing this role.
Mould your Player Traits around your chosen playstyle. CAMs typically benefit from high ball control, dribbling and short passing abilities, while good pace and tackling is also important. Add points to finishing and long shots to improve your consistency in front of goal.
Winger
Key Traits: Agility, Dribbling, Sprint Speed
The big difference for wide midfielders and wingers this year is that speed isn’t as overpowered as it was in FIFA 18. It’s still a crucial part of your game, but you don’t need to sacrifice height and weight as a result – sticking to a CAM-like 5ft 10in and 176-198lbs is more than adequate for bursting down the wing.
You’ll still want to max out your pace traits when you can. Other Skill Points are best allocated to dribbling, crossing and short passing, while shooting can also prove important with some formations that utilise wingers, such as a 4-3-3. Focus any excess points on stamina.
Striker
Key Traits: Dribbling, Finishing, Shot Power
For strikers, you might want to set your height slightly taller than last year – around 6ft 2" is our preference. Depending on your playstyle, your weight should fall anywhere from 152lbs to 198lbs, with the latter suiting more physical players.
There are loads of ways to personalise your striker in the Player Traits screen. Finishing and shot power are the most important stats to equip from the off, while agility and dribbling are also crucial for this position. Add extra speed or strength depending on your style, while curve passing (which also affects shooting) improves your ability to put swerve on the ball.
