Cristobal de Col in Red Bull Chicama Challenge

Cristobal de Col rides Peru´s the longest wave

Chicama, in the north of Peru is known as the longest left-hand wave in the world. Peruvian surf star Cristobal de Col recently pushed through fatigue, mental pressure and a jellyfish plague to set a brand new world record by performing 34 carved turns on this legendary wave at the Red Bull Chicama Challenge. Watch Cristobal's video (above) to see him achieve his new record.

The ISA World Surfing Games Junior Champion, his team and family spent two full days attempting to set the brand new world record for the most manoeuvres performed on a single wave.
On arrival at the legendary break, Cristobal's only aim was to establish a new record for the most three 360s on a single wave. But after easily pumping out 11 on his first try, he decided to raise the bar and set himself a bigger, better and badder challenge. Cristobal decided that the time was right to create a new record that he could his own - the most manoeuvres performed on a single wave.

It was on the second day of surfing that Cristobal managed to set the new record, surfing his 34 carved turns in a wave that lasted for 2 minutes and 20 seconds and earning himself a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. But whilst the Peruvian is delighted with his world best, he believes that he could raise the bar even higher next time: “I was watching the waves afterwards and thought: ‘Maybe I should just get back in and beat my own record!’”
