It probably goes without saying that the chorus of 'Get Lucky' was the loudest chorus heard globally in 2013. And Daft Punk's Grammy performance with the entire music industry standing up to celebrate and dance is evidence enough of their legend status. Random Access Memory was one of those albums that unite the hipsters and mainstreamers alike. Their dance-disco sound was the biggest genre revival in a very long time, but they were definitely not the first.
Here are a list of artists who've been making music in the quintessential 80s dance-synth style much before Random Access Memories.
Sebastien Tellier
French singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist is a celebrated alt-culture figure and probably one of France's best musical exports. His compositions can range from beautifully cinematic to outright eccentric.

' La Ritournelle' (has some similarities to Daft Punk - 'Motherboard') ' Divine' ' Kilometer' ' Roche'
Kavinsky
Kavinsky's sound can be best described as the electro-pop movie soundtrack from the 80s. Kinda like Knight Rider ( remember that?) Much like Daft Punk, Kavinsky is a character with a back story. After crashing his Testarossa (also name of his first single) in 1986, Kavinsky reappeared as a zombie in 2006 to make music again. Coolest back story ever.

Breakbot
Although this French DJ, composer is best recognized for his remixes, he's still got some damn good tunes to make you dance. Those of you who've played Gran Turismo 5 might remember this.
Justice
These French electronic music duo are the kind of artists that resolve any confusion you might have about which-music-festival-should-I-attend once their name is on the bill. Their cult status and the hype around them can only be fully understood from their live concerts. Their sound is an evolution from the 80s synthpop style.

Cassius
Early in their career this French duo remixed a track for Daft Punk and have been churning some great tunes, music videos and gigs. Their sound might not be an exact fit in with 80s synthpop but their style bleeds cool.
Most of you must've noticed all these artists are French. Almost all of them belong to Ed Banger Records, managed by Pedro Winter (who also managed Daft Punk for 11 years).
