S. Dinesh (Left Arm batsman, Captain, SRM University, Chennai)
S. Dinesh didn’t have to look far for inspiration when he decided to start playing cricket. His uncle, M. Venkatramana, was a stalwart of Tamil Nadu cricket, who also played for the Indian national team in the 1980’s. Having spent eight years at the Chennai sports foundation, he is now preparing to follow in the footsteps of his uncle. A stylish left arm batsman, he is currently the captain of the SRM University cricket team, which has emerged as one of the strongest university sides in the South Zone and looks to take this form to the national level.
When asked to describe his team’s chances, Dinesh says, “We’re playing really well as a unit right now and have beaten all university sides in the South Zone. So our chances at the national level are good, if we continue to play to our potential.”
A. C. Pradhiban (Right Arm off-spinner, SRM University, Chennai)
A. C. Pradhiban got started playing cricket on the streets of Chennai, with regular games of tennis ball cricket before ‘accidentally’ joining a cricket club almost ten years ago. “My dad wanted me to join what he thought was a fitness training camp, which also turned out be a cricket coaching camp. I was already in love with the game and took every chance I got from that point to improve myself. I don’t count any one cricketer as my inspiration or idol, but try to pick up something from everyone.”
Speaking of the Red Bull Campus Cricket tournament, Pradhiban says, “This is a great tournament that has earned itself a great reputation and our team has been one of the best performers so far in the South Zone. We’re looking forward to the national finals and hope to continue our run of form on the big stage. We know what we are and how well we can perform; now it’s just a question of carrying the momentum forward.”
