Ever since making her World Cup debut in 2009, Dorothea Wierer has been an exceptionally fast and incredibly accurate shooter. She's equally impressive whether performing in the standing or prone categories of biathlon and she’s a great all-rounder across the sport’s various disciplines of sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start and relays.
Dorothea scored her first World Cup general classification points in 2011. She dominated the Youth World Championships of the same year in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic, where she won three gold medals in the sprint, pursuit and individual competitions, as well as a silver in the relay. And she’s been a force to be reckoned with for many seasons in the multi-event World Cup, having become the first Italian to win the competition outright at the end of the 2018-2019 season.
Two bronze medals at Olympic level preceded a gold in the Mass Start at the 2019 IBU World Championships in Östersund, Sweden, and a superb performance at the 2020 IBU World Championships on home soil in Rasen-Antholz which resulted in gold medals in the 10km Pursuit and the 15km Individual, plus a silver in the 12.5km Mass Start and another silver in the 4 × 6km Women's and Men's relay.
The following season she notched first place at the IBU World Cup in Kontiolahti, Finland, which she followed with four more podium places, to further cement her place among the world's top biathlon stars.
Then in 2022, Dorothea secured yet another Olympic medal as she won bronze in the 7.5km Sprint event in Beijing, China.
She followed this up in 2023 with more solo wins on the World Cup circuit, as well as gold and silver medals with the Italian relay team at the IBU World Championships in Germany.
