Relive the story of the Dakar Rally 2018 with a picture each day from the world's toughest Rally Raid, where the competitors tackled a spectacular 9,000km route from Lima, Peru, through Bolivia to the finish in Córdoba, Argentina.

Stage One

Defending champion in the Bike competition and the first British competitor to win the Dakar, Sam Sunderland sets the pace on his KTM over the dunes on day one of the Dakar Rally 2018.

Stage Two

A five-time winner of the Bike race and winner of the Silk Way Rally, Cyril Despres claims the first stage victory for Peugeot.

Stage Three

After winning the opening sprint, Nasser Al-Attiyah struggled on Stage Two, but Stage Three saw the Qatari back on top of the podium.

Stage Four

A spectacular start on the shores of the Pacific as Peugeot-Total's Cyril Despres, Carlos Sainz and Stéphane Peterhansel, along with Nasser Al-Attiyah of Toyota-Gazoo, open the stage on the beaches of San Juan de Marcona.

Stage Five

Stage Six

Rest Day

Stage Seven

A brilliant day for one of the fastest drivers in the Dakar field as Carlos Sainz arrives in Uyuni as overall leader on day one of the Marathon stage.
Stage Eight

Stage 8 was the second part of the Marathon stage. With 498 km of racing, it was also the longest daily distance to be raced in this 2018 Dakar Rally.
Stage Nine

There was a pause in proceedings, as Stage Nine fell victim to torrential rain in Bolivia. So instead of driving against the clock and across the border to Salta, Argentina, drivers and riders took the assistance route and focused getting prepared for Stage Ten.
Stage 10

Stage 10 saw the 2018 Dakar Rally tackle the Argentinian sand dunes and river beds between Salta and Belén. After several days in the rain, hot weather returned with temperatures above 40°C.
Stage 11

A number of broken riders and drivers turned up to the start line of the 280km 'Super Fiambalá' special from Belén to Chilecito. Stage 11 was largely uneventful for many of the leading contenders in the car category, but plenty of drama unfolded elsewhere.
Stage 12

Safety concerns unfortunately ruled out any racing for the bike and quad riders on the second marathon stage of the 2018 Dakar Rally. The cars and trucks got stuck into the route though and a classic duel developed between two race legends in Nasser Al-Attiyah and Stéphane Peterhansel.
Stage 13

Stage 13 was the last major opportunity for riders and drivers to attack and go for glory in a bid to make a late move in the overall standings. Sainz, Walkner and Casale lead going into final stage of the Dakar Rally.

After 9,000km of brutal racing across Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, the competitors finally reached the finish of the 2018 Dakar Rally in Córdoba.Carlos Sainz, Matthias Walkner, Ignacio Casale and Eduard Nikolaev all carried big leads heading into the final 120km special stage around the home of rallying in Argentina and were not to be denied.
