Mr Probz learned from Eminem’s DJ, survived a shooting and is back with an album you need to hear.
The buzz
Mr Probz is a Dutch producer, songwriter and vocalist, and right now he’s the biggest thing in German pop as well as his home nation. His latest single, Waves, has just gone to number one in Germany and with heartfelt vocals about fighting back, sung in English over a simple live track, it has the potential to be big everywhere.
The back story
Mr Probz – Dennis Princewell Stehr to his grandmother – was born to Danish and Antillian parents. He entered the world of hip-hop through graffiti and now has a serious rap apprenticeship behind him. He learned the tricks of the trade from US rap royalty Alchemist (Eminem’s DJ), Joe Budden and Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon.
Mr Probz was shot in 2010 after witnessing a fight but he came back six months later with a minor hit, Meisje Luister (Listen Girl) featuring Kleine Viezerik. A few years later his home and studio burned to the ground with everything, apart from his laptop and hard drive, turned to ashes.
The future
Mr Probz is springing back with a little help from Red Bull Studios Amsterdam, where he's set to record brand-new material. Look out for a forthcoming interview on the Red Bull Music channel.
If you only do one thing…
