Pusha T is responsible for one of the greatest hip-hop albums of the 21st century – Clipse's Hell Hath No Fury (2006). That's no flowery praise. Gritty beats met dystopian, quasi-classical soundscapes and some of the finest he-didn't-just-rap-that-did-he? lines in years. But since he uncoupled from his brother (his actual brother) Malice, Pusha T has been finding his way again.
He's put out mix-tapes (the latest being Wrath of Caine), an EP, worked with Tyler, the Creator, and guested with Kanye West and – ahem – Pixie Lott. More recently, though, Pusha T has been promising his debut album proper for Kanye's GOOD Music.
The release date of My Name Is My Name has changed more times than David Beckham washes his underwear. But in a revealing interview with the Red Bull Music Academy magazine, in which he talks influences and surprising the hip-hop world, Pusha T says it's all finished. "In the sense of the rapping," at least.
Pal, collaborator, and label boss Kanye West has taken the reins and is currently putting the finishing touches to the record. Leaving Pusha T to tout My Name Is My Name as "honestly flawless". He certainly knows how to build anticipation, does Pusha T.
