Race one was a great battle with two of the regular top 125 runners

I'm in the paddock at Donington as I write this bit about a home race I had last weekend. (I thought I'd put in a little about my racing outside the rookies.)
It's not often I get the chance to race at home as the Rookies rounds have clashed with the Irish Championship races a lot, so to get to race against the best guys back home is great.
I had hoped to mix it a bit with the top guys and learn a wee bit from them, but I never guessed the weekend would go so well for me.
I ride a 1996 honda at home fitted with a 2004 std barrel. It goes well but is down on power compared to some of the other JHA kitted bikes. I don't mind this as it makes me ride hard in the corners to make up time.
Qualifying was stopped short for me as a chain adjuster broke, but I was happy with 5th on the grid and a front row start.
Race one was a great battle with two of the regular top 125 runners and one other young guy. I ran in third for a lot of the race and took 2nd near the end. I tried to take the lead just before the flag, but missed out by 0.09 secs. I was delighted with 2nd, but knew I had enough to win a race.
In race 2 I went for it from the start and took the lead on the 2nd lap. I led for 2 laps and then the race was stopped because of a crash. I again led the restart until it too was stopped and the organisers called a result. I had won my first National race and was told I had made a little history. I am the youngest rider ever to win a National race in Ireland and the youngest clubman ever to win a National 125 race!
So off I went to Donington, my ‘home’ GP hoping I could bring this good form with me and do well.
Josh
