He loves sport and coming from Finland it is not surprising that Joakim's favourite sport away from the bike is ice hockey in the winter and baseball in the summer.
On the bike he gets valuable experience ice racing in the winter, something that produced one of the greatest racers of all time, fellow Fin Jarno Sarrinen, a World Champion back in the 70s who lead a great group of Finish racers who made their mark in that era.
That was long before Joakim was born and his modern day hero is Valentino. He knows that emulating either champion's success will not be easy. "I want to develop as a rider to the top level.
"I will keep in my mind that it needs a huge amount of work and positive energy to go forward. Keep always in my head the promise that, 'You can create of yourself what you will at all times."
