The gastronomic capital of France is also a stronghold of skateboard culture.
Lyon has for a long time been considered France's skateboarding capital. It is from here that talents such as Jérémie Daclin and JB Gillet emerged, and Lyon is also home to Cliché Skateboards, AntizSkateboards,Blaze Supply, and more recently, Diligent Skateboards. Lyon truly is a breeding ground for the French skate culture.

It is largely, if not entirely, through the work and dedication of Cliché founder Jérémie Daclin that skateboarders worldwide have discovered Lyon's spots.
Locales like HDV (Hôtel de Ville) have been immortalised in images by Fred 'French Fred' Mortagne – himself a citizen of Lyon.

Lyon’s attractions became prominent internationally early in the new millennium. Mark Gonzales spent a school year there with his girlfriend, while Ali Boulala settled for three years. The city is now part of the 'must- visit' destinations for international riders, because of spots such as the Foch hubba, Gorge-de-Loup banks, the 'Small Place' rail, the Hôtel de Ville ledges and pyramid. More recently we have seen the emergence of newer spots like Charpenne or Confluence, where, by the way, the new contemporary art museum looks architecturally promising.
On the skatepark side of things not much has changed since the famous La Piste park in the early 90s, but progress is being made and some new structures have appeared of late – a new plaza in the 'Parc Blandan', and for winter sessions, there is the Gerland skatepark.

If during your stay you need to buy skate stuff, then you'd have to visit ABS, Wall St or Namasté skateshops. Guaranteed, these guys will help you out, and maybe give you some tips about the closest spot.

Oh, and don't forget: Lyon is France's capital of gastronomy, so leave time aside for some proper eating!
