Mick Fanning had a 2015 he'd probably prefer to forget but knows he never will. A shark attack, a family tragedy, an oh-so-close world title tilt and a first attempt at Tasmania's notorious Shipstern Bluff were but a few of the moments that marked Mick's last 12 months, and as the new year rolled around he decided it was time for a change.

Now that he's come to terms with his new-found status as the world's most famous surfer Mick has decided it's time to clear his head and try a few different things, take a sabbatical if you will. While Mick looks to the future we're here to celebrate his existing body of work, and contacted one of his best friends and lifelong filming buddy Simon ‘Shagga’ Saffigna to pull together an all-time video edit.
Shagga leaped at the chance and so, in a departure from our regular Reel Life format, we present this dedicated Mick Fanning edit. Surely there's plenty more freesurfing to come from Fanning in the near future – that's why you walk away from the tour, right?
Click on the video above to watch one of surfing's immortals put on premium high performance at some of the world's great waves. You'll be missed in the jersey this year, Mick, but a few more edits like this and we'll get by just fine. For now.
