Our friends at Stab bring us all of the insane waves and incredulous reactions as the WSL's 2020 Championship Tour opening event in Australia is cancelled.
At the start of March, the WSL's Championship Tour circus rolled into Coolangatta on Australia's Gold Coast for the traditional season-opening contest. As the world's best surfers arrived, so too did an incredible swell, but sadly the season was put on hold soon after.
Our friends at Stab weren't perturbed by the first event being cancelled however and with No Contest never more suitably named, they went to work a short distance from their Byron Bay HQ. With regular host Ashton Goggans grounded in the United States, it was left to longtime cinematographers Jacob Wooden and Dylan Roberts to pick the brains of the men and women of the Championship Tour as they got their heads around what 2020 might bring.
The results have led us to one of the more fascinating episodes of No Contest yet, with everyone from Mick Fanning to Mikey Wright lighting up the waves and voices like Leo Fioravanti, Alana Blanchard and Josh Kerr giving us their takes on what's going down in the surfing world of late.
We're not sure what's going on with the remainder of the 2020 WSL season, but we do know that when Championship Tour events run we'll be right there alongside our friends at Stab, doing all we can to bring you the best behind-the-scenes edits. With our first – and hopefully not last – No Contest release of the year we feel like we've done just that and hope you like the show as much as we delighted in pulling it together. Enjoy.
