3 reasons why you should know Ivan Lam

One of Malaysia’s most celebrated artist, Ivan Lam, is set to reveal 9 new artworks in his new Vanity Project X series. His most prominent work in the past was a painting, commissioned by Louis Vuitton for their collection, which can still be seen in their Malaysian Flagship store, in Kuala Lumpur.
In the new series, the concept of his works are based on duality and the works are split to represent his views on each side of a subject. The video below showcases Ivan Lam in his natural element – his studio. Take a peek into Ivan’s mind, art philosophy, process, and how he balances being a father and an artist.

We’ve also listed down the 3 top reasons why you should get to know this enigmatic artist and his works.
1. He’s always hungry
No, we’re not talking about food. But in the same way, he’s always hungry to learn and hungry for more inspiration. Pushing boundaries is one of his best traits, and obviously, he excels at it.
2. He doesn’t stick to the typical mediums
Any artist can tell you that paints, graphite and ink are their most important tools. Ivan, on the other hand, makes use of unconventional things like vinyl, resin, honey (and the insects that it attracts), soy wax, bees wax, soap, and fire powder.
3. People go on bidding wars for his works
He has been featured at both Christie’s and Sotheby’s auctions. Both the National Art Gallery of Malaysia and Galeri Petronas have collected his pieces, and he is the only Malaysian artist to be given a solo exhibition at Art Basel Hong Kong’s highly exclusive inaugural fair in 2013.
Ivan Lam will be premiering his Vanity Project X exhibition in Wei-Ling Gallery on the 9th of May 2017. For more details, head to weiling-gallery.com
