Visiting Japan, Tokyo in particular, is an electric sensory overload where traditional meets futuristic. Think bright neon lights, vibrant night life, experimental fashion, culinary delights, century old shrines and gardens filled with greenery and cherry blossoms.
But it is the Japanese love for motorsports and cars that is often unknown to the intrepid traveler. Ebisu Circuit is classified as the ‘home of drifting’, Formula DRIFT Japan is held throughout each year, Touges (mountain passes) are considered a drifter’s dream, albeit dangerous, and as soon as night falls swarms of street racers play a dicey game of cat and mouse with each other.
So, it’s no wonder ‘Mad’ Mike considers Japan one of his favourite places to visit, returning each year to compete and enjoy the wide spectrum of Japanese culture.
On his last trip, Mike immersed himself in the weird and wonderful side of the capital's pop culture, dressing up as Donald Duck and hooning around the streets of Tokyo in a real-life motorised Super Mario Kart.
'Mad' Mike will be competing in Round 3 of Formula DRIFT Japan at the Fuji Speedway on July 28 & 29, stay tuned for the live stream details.
