Race format & rules
Red Bull Guanajuato Cerro Abajo is a high-stakes urban downhill battle where every second counts. The race follows a time-trial format, where riders take on the course individually, and the fastest descent wins. Conquering the race track isn’t just about pure speed, it’s also a testament to the rider's precision, confidence and control in navigating one of the most intense urban downhill courses in the sport.
The course is packed with punishing stair sets, rooftop drops, tight alleyway corners, and high-speed wallrides, demanding razor-sharp reflexes and fearless commitment. Every man-made feature – jumps, drops, and wallrides – is mandatory, with a 5-second penalty for incorrect execution. Unlike traditional downhill courses, there’s no tape marking the track, so riders must rely on track memorisation to find the fastest lines.
Red Bull Guanajuato Cerro Abajo also features a Qualification Round, where only the top 15 riders advance to the Finals. Some additional riders may qualify through protected status, based on previous rankings and UCI standings, or receive byes due to track incidents.
With 37 world-class riders battling for the final win of the season, including 2024's Red Bull Guanajuato Cerro Abajo top three finishers Juanfer Vélez (COL), Tomáš Slavík (SLO) and Sebastián Holguín (COL), get ready for plenty of all-out speed, skill, and pure adrenaline.
