Horror-games are not for everyone. We however believe that everyone should give it a try at least once. It’s a misinterpretation to think that you need to be brave, courageous and fearless to take on the scariest of games - We’re not fearless. We get dragged in by curiosity, and we continue - not because of courage, but due to the fear of looking back. Get into halloween mode and check out this list of horror games dropping soon.

Resident Evil 7 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

The Resident Evil series has been a game changer in the horror genre, once known as the king of horror games. It’s been with us for as long as we can remember. When we were younger and spoke about horrifying things we had experienced throughout the games - RE often came to mind. Sadly, it all changed during the 4th installment. The game fell into a shoot-em-up genre due to barely any scarcity in resources, lack of disadvantage towards our enemies or horror. The game suddenly focused more on our skill in reflex and gun handling rather than the ability to make a decision - Run or Fight, the very core in a horror and survival game. This time, according to Kawata’s statements, CAPCOM will not let us play as super soldiers charging even the most terrifying monstrosities head-on. No, this time we will once again experience the exhilaration of fear and despair when faced with a superior being. Playing as Ethan, a civilian searching for his missing wife. It’s time - Run and hide.

Outlast 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC, OS X)

Gaming studio ’Red Barrels’ announced shortly after the success of its predecessor ’Outlast’ which had a huge impact on the horror-game stage. Deemed as a must play by many, our expectations for the sequel has been huge. Playing as Blake Langermann, a journalist investigating the murder of a pregnant woman named Jane Doe, you will be equipped with a video camera with night vision feature. Sadly the batteries seem to be of the stone-age and you have no capability of fighting whatsoever. Why? Because this is true horror, the constant conflict of wanting to hide from the horrors, whilst still being in a desperate search for means to survive. Hopefully the plot is exciting enough, or the game will become a never-ending hunt for batteries. Nothing however, is more terrifying then the thought of being alone in the dark.

Little Nightmares (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

The first time we encountered footage of ’Little nightmares’ or ’Hunger’ as it was called then - We were left speechless. Tarsier Studios, were from what we could see, working on a puzzle-platform-horror game, with a feel of the mixture between bio shock and little big planet. With a soundtrack that sent shivers down our spines combined - We felt the urge. We needed it. We had no idea on what platform or publisher the game was going to get published on until August 2016. Here you will get to play through the nightmares of your childhood as ’Six’. Shrouded in a yellow raincoat we embark on a horrifying adventure in our quest of escaping the vast, mysterious vessel known as ’The Maw’. You’re not alone, inside lurks corrupted souls with, as you might expect, not so friendly intentions. It’s time to use brain before brawl to avoid becoming their next meal.

Allison Road (PC, Linux, OS X)

Since the announcement Allison Road has been a survival-horror-game sought after by many fans, and the base has built up through the year. Therefore, it came as a shock when it was announced in June that the production had been cancelled. Luckily the disappointment wasn’t forever as they two months later made an announcement that indicates that the work had been resumed. Not much is known on the storyline of Allison Road, and the teaser they released back in 2015 didn’t make us smarter. Typical horror-game scenario - We wake up as a, what appears to be a middle-aged man at the backyard of what is presumed to be his house. The setting is dark, mysterious and mischievous. We can sense the danger. As we progress through the teaser it becomes apparent that something terrible and sinister has happened in the house. We are lured into discovering more. And like a horror-game should be, the more we discover the more horrifying it becomes - So we continue.

Routine (PC, OS X)

Space, oh space. We all love it, it’s vast and unknown and it always comes with the well-known gruesome settings in form of slimy-alien-like features, blinking lights and extreme loneliness. Unfortunately, it isn’t lonely enough. No matter how big the spaceship is it’s never big enough for you and the monsters lurking within. Routine is no different. Little is known of ’Routine’. We do know that we are aboard a large spaceship, things - Yes things wants to kill us. Luckily this time we are armed with what appears to be a gun called the CAT, which stands for ’Cosmonaut Assistance Tool’. But even though we are armed Routine still gives us the splendour of being inferior. The lack of a HUD, meaning no health bars etc. makes us feel fragile. Excellent, now run and hide the best you can - And remember, never ever look back.

Scorn (PC)

There is nothing more exciting then studios that want to break out of the norm and pave the way for new adventures. This time Ebb Software wants us to feel like a fish out of the water, in an open world where our actions determine our fate. And yes, the setting is terrifying and unsettling. It’s up to us to figure out how to complete the game. This can be a heavy load sometimes, and sometimes even make you wonder - Couldn’t the creator just write a better story rather than trying to bait us with” Do what you want”? Hopefully Scorn will not let us down. Scorn will be released in two parts, the first part is expected to be launched early next year. It seems to be difficult, as there are apparently no tutorials or guidance that will hold your hand throughout the game. Missing an important plot in the game is very likely, and will cause a large struggle. We do have a gun with us, but apparently ammunition will be extremely scarce, and it’s crucial that you pick your fights with utmost care.
