With such a vast selection of players available to collect in FIFA Ultimate Team, it’s no surprise that some have always performed better (and indeed, worse) than their overall ratings suggest. FUT 19 continues this trend, springing a few surprises that can be obtained for mostly small fees.
The likes of Alexander Esswein and John Carew have found themselves written into FIFA folklore due to their overpowered abilities in past FIFA titles. But who is included in this year's selection? We’ve highlighted our top picks below.

1. Wojciech Szczęsny (GK, Juventus)

The 84-rated base item of Juventus keeper Wojciech Szczęsny competes with some of the best goalkeeper items on the market. The Polish star far outperforms his rating between the sticks, benefiting from the likes of 87 reflexes and 85 diving to frustrate star strikers. Szczęsny, who spent eight years with Premier League side Arsenal, only costs around 5k on the transfer market, and is a fantastic bargain for starter squads.

2. Kyle Walker (RB, Manchester City)

Walker is the right-back of choice for many players in FUT 19

Despite Man City star Kyle Walker’s unremarkable overall rating of 84 in FIFA 19, he’s arguably the best right-back in the game. The England international boasts an array of excellent stats, including blistering pace and impressive physical abilities. Walker remains the go-to choice at right-back for many Division Rivals and FUT Champions squads, and while he’ll cost you a fair chunk of change on the market (75k), you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.

3. Presnel Kimpembe (CB, Paris Saint-Germain)

France international and PSG centre-back Kimpembe far outplays his 83 overall rating, due in-part to his superb strength, tackling and interceptions attributes. Kimpembe, who was a 60-rated defender just three years ago following the release of FUT 16, is currently available for around 4k coins on the transfer market. The two-time Ligue 1 winner is a rock in defence against even the best strikers FIFA Ultimate Team has to offer.

4. Andrew Robertson (LB, Liverpool)

Liverpool defender Robertson benefits from a +5 increase to his overall rating in FUT 19. The 81-rated left-back continues to perform better in-game than his rating suggests, however, primarily due to his well-balanced stats. Robertson excels in most areas, helped by the likes of 87 stamina, 80 interceptions and a generous set of pace-related attributes. The Scottish talent only costs around 2k on the market, too, making him an affordable option for EPL sides.

5. Hulk (RM, Shanghai SIPG)

Brazilian star Hulk currently plays for Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG, and can be acquired for the low price of just 1.5k on the FUT 19 transfer market. The right-midfielder benefits from FIFA 19’s heavy focus on physicality, sporting an impressive 92 in strength. The ex-Porto and Zenit forward is also lethal in front of goal due to his 86 shooting attributes, including a massive 94 shot power stat.

6. Geoffrey Kondogbia (CM, Valencia)

Expect to regain possession regularly with Kondogbia at CM or CDM

Valencia and France international Geoffrey Kondogbia is another highly physical presence in the middle of the park. The midfielder carries out a key defensive role in the centre of the park, with his 91 strength, 85 standing tackle and 84 interceptions attributes helping him to excel. Kondogbia's low overall rating of 82 feels considerably underrated both on the pitch and on paper, particularly when taking into account his highly competent stats across the board.

7. Allan (CM, Napoli)

Brazilian midfielder Allan is similar to Kondogbia – another defensive-minded midfielder who outperforms his somewhat average 82 overall rating. In fact, Allan is arguably most effective in a CDM role, in which the ex-Udinese and Vasco da Gama midfielder can effectively utilise his 86 interceptions, 85 marking and 85 standing tackle stats. You’ll only require around 1.5k coins to snap up the Napoli star and newly-capped Brazil international on the market.

8. Quincy Promes (LM, Sevilla)

Be sure to take advantage of Promes’ 86 finishing in front of goal

Pace has long been an important commodity for wide midfielders and wingers in FIFA, and 26-year-old Quincy Promes certainly fits the bill. The Netherlands talent enjoys a 90-rated pace stat as well as 87 agility and 86 finishing, but he still has a relatively low overall rating of 83. Promes, who can be obtained for around 4k on the transfer market, is especially lethal in attacking areas due to his five-star skill moves and four-star weak foot abilities.

9. Memphis Depay (ST, Lyon)

While Lyon striker Memphis Depay has received three special variants in FUT 19, his 83-rated base item remains a great acquisition on the market. It’s not hard to see why – the Netherlands international excels in pace, shooting and dribbling, and is also superb at set pieces. Add his five-star skill moves, low market value (3k) and excellent chemistry with the aforementioned Quincy Promes into the mix, and you're left with a top signing.

10. Wilfried Zaha (CF/LF, Crystal Palace)

Zaha’s 90 dribbling and 87 ball control make him lethal in attack

The 82-rated Wilfried Zaha performs far more effectively than his overall rating suggests, primarily when utilised in a CF or LF role. We’ve found that turning Zaha into a striker can lessen his impact, with the Ivorian suffering from poor strength and heading abilities. Utilise Zaha to best effect, however, and you’ll benefit from his outstanding dribbling and pace abilities for the absurdly low price of just 1k coins on the transfer market.
