The Czech Republic's representation in MotoGP will be doubled in 2013, with Lukas Pesek joining Karel Abraham on the premier class grid.
Pesek, a former 125cc, 250cc and Moto2 rider in the World Championship, has ridden in national championships in Germany and Spain as well as the World Supersport series since his last appearance on a Grand Prix grid in September 2010.
Now the 27-year-old will have his first taste of the elite category after it was confirmed he had signed with the Came Ioda Racing team next season.
I'm delighted to get this new opportunity!
Pesek will join Danilo Petrucci in the set-up after the Italian rode solo for them in 2012, and the Czech rider will have a BMW-powered Suter machine running under the CRT specifications for 2013.
The move sees Pesek reunited with legendary figure Giampero Sacchi, the man credited with discovering Valentino Rossi and under whose tutelage Pesek enjoyed his best years in the 125cc World Championship.
“I'm delighted to get this new opportunity and I'm extremely grateful to Giampero Sacchi for it. I have some of my best memories from my 125cc days with him,” said Pesek.
“Riding in MotoGP certainly won't be easy, the very best riders from around the world compete there and it'll be a huge step for me, but I'll give it my all to get the best results possible.”
Pesek scored two victories on a 125cc Derbi in 2007 on his way to fourth position in the Championship, his best ever finish.
