Just Cause 3, Avalanche Studio’s explosive open-world adventure sequel, has plenty of action for you to sink your teeth into, with a comprehensive campaign mode set across a sprawling game world, grappling hooks, wingsuits and even a spot of shipping container Jenga (if you have the patience). But once the credits have rolled, it can sometimes to be hard to know where to start in a sandbox so big.
Thankfully, as ever you can count on modders for the answer. PC gamers have already started adding custom creations and modifications to the game – and while it hasn’t been cracked completely open, modders are still tinkering around with the game, letting you mess around with some totally wacky designs and mix-ups, while one incredible mod from the game’s predecessor is already in the works. Here’s a quick look at some of the best mods to come out so far – we’ll be back to revisit even more once the community has had even more time to make the most of what the game has to offer.

Super-speed tractor

More likely to be seen on a farm than the busy roads of Medici, you’re able to command a tractor throughout the worlds of Just Cause 3, but it’s rather slow for getting from exploding A to exploding B – it’s just not ideal for stunting. Enter this replacement though, the straight-to-the-point Old Tractor Speed Mod that ups the horsepower on the ‘ol tractor, pushing it from a tepid 25kph to a rapid 80. Hit the gas, and see what you can do with this powerful old machine.

Ride a moo-tercycle

There’s not much to say about this one other than you simply need to watch this ridiculous video. It shouldn’t work, but it does. Hit the download here for all the two wheeled bovine goodness.

Boost your Rebel Drop

Just Cause 3’s Rebel Drop is a handy way of getting weapons and vehicles to you quick, but it has its limitations, and might not be able to drop exactly what you want. Enter the Rebel Drop Mod, which adds 50 more vehicles for you to call on, more weapons and all sorts of other items for you to spawn – including trains and, yes, animals. As you do.

Make Medici look even better

PC gamers with expensive, propane-cooled gaming rigs that eat Crysis for breakfast love to take things to the extreme when it comes to graphics. Whether that’s cranking things up to ultra settings, tipping the resolution over 4K or grabbing the latest graphics-enhancing mods to make them look even more realistic, you can bet there’s plenty of people who want to crank things up to 11 to tax their computers even more. Just Cause 3 was pretty enough to begin with, but there’s now a graphics enhancement mod to make the world of Medici look even better: the SweetFX graphics mods adds a bevy of post-processing effects such as ambient light, bloom and chromatic aberration. Your explosion-filled adventures will look better, sharper and a whole lot sweeter – fingers crossed your rig can actually run it.

Take a monster truck for a spin – in the sky

Just in case your regular monster truck wasn’t ridiculous enough, intrepid modder Choklad has decided to strap a pair of wings onto the front of one to recreate that scene from The Man With The Golden Gun, but you know, with a monster truck instead of a station wagon. Even better, once you’re airborne, unleashing a spot of nitro acts as a propellant. Now this is what we call a jumbo jet.

Just Cause 3: Multiplayer

Fans took matters into their own hands when it came to adding frenetic multiplayer fun to Just Cause 2, and while Avalanche Studios hasn’t officially confirmed it’ll be adding its own official multiplayer component to the game, the creators of the JC2 mod have already said that they’ll be crafting their own rendition for the latest game in the series. It’s far from complete, but plenty of work has been made already and you can check out what to expect in this teaser the team has released. GTA Online, eat your heart out.
