In FIFA 19 and this year’s edition of FUT, Chemistry is everything. Understanding individual and team chemistry, and learning how to increase their values via player position, loyalty, manager bonuses, and links between team-mates can help you transform your ‘day ones’ into a passable contender. Nerding out on Chemistry Styles and all there is to know about attributes can help you prepare for competitive play and turn your Edin Dzeko into the second coming of Francesco Totti.
In FUT 19, there are a total of 22 different Chemistry Styles. Each specific card can be applied to a player of your choice and since each one is tailored to a position on the field – Attack, Mid, Defence and Goalkeeping – they can improve stats in specific areas and affect more than 10 different attributes, from Acceleration and Shot Power to Marking and Heading. The following is a mini guide to the most useful Chemistry Styles in play as the numbers noted below represent the maximum potential amount an attribute can improve by, which is also determined by a player’s hidden Overall Chemistry. They’re a valuable resource overall and can cost anywhere from 200 coins (Artist) to 3,100 coins (Shadow) depending on your play style and preferred formations.

The Deadeye and Sniper styles are for attackers only

1. Deadeye

Unlike Finisher or this year’s nerf on Hawk, Deadeye is ideal for strong CFs and attacking CAMs thanks to upticks in Finishing, Positioning, and Shot Power. Throw in Vision and Short Passing, and it’s a must-have for veterans who prefer to sneak into the box with additional attackers.
Best position(s): CAM, CF, LW, RW
Main stats improved: Shooting, Passing
Main attributes improved: Finishing (+15), Short Passing (+15), Curve (+10)
Best players: Lionel Messi (94), Paulo Dybala (89), Paul Pogba (88)

2. Sniper

It sacrifices Shot Power for boosts in Positioning, Balance, Reactions and Ball Control which make it a more complete buff for speedy forwards with average ball skills. It’s well-rounded enough (see Volleys +10) for both Lorenzo Insigne and Mauro Icardi, as well as Romelu Lukaku or Kylian Mbappé.
Best position(s): ST, CF, LW, RW
Main stats improved: Shooting, Dribbling
Main attributes improved: Dribbling (+15), Finishing (+15), Penalties (+15)
Best players: Neymar (92), Gonzalo Higuaín (88), Lorenzo Insigne (88)

3. Artist

Dribbling, Long Passing and Vision can receive a boost of +15, but the nods for Passing (+10) and Reactions (+10) round out a full skill set for Madrid and PSG loyalists. It’s utilised best for quick midfielders and wingers that are primarily used to cut inside and create chances for STs.
Best position(s): CAM, CM, LM, RM
Main stats improved: Dribbling, Passing
Main attributes improved: Dribbling (+15), Long Passing (+15), Vision (+15)
Best players: Toni Kroos (90), Edinson Cavani (89), Marek Hamšík (87)

4. Architect

Two words: agile wingers. Architect is only truly beneficial if it fits your offensive schemes, but it’s one of the most underrated styles due to its boosts in Crossing, Long Passing, Short Passing, Curve, and Vision. Fancy yourself Christian Eriksen or Ivan Rakitić? Stock up and bank on the +15 Strength.
Best position(s): CAM, CM
Main stats improved: Passing, Physical
Main attributes improved: Crossing (+15), Long Passing (+15), Strength (+15)
Best players: Luka Modrić (91), Antoine Griezmann (89), Casemiro (88)

5. Catalyst

If you eat, sleep, and breathe Hunter then trade it in for Catalyst. Hunter took a hit in ‘19, losing points off of Finishing, Long Shots, and Acceleration, and this Special Chem Style benefits the creative types – tacking on +10 Sprint Speed and a pivotal +15 Vision that’s perfect for wingers. Cristiano Ronaldo is an obvious pick, but don’t forget about Dybala (89).
Best position(s): CDM, CM, CAM
Main stats improved: Pace, Passing
Main attributes improved: Acceleration (+15), Curve (+15), Vision (+15)
Best players: Cristiano Ronaldo (94), Robert Lewandowski (90), David Silva (89)

6. Engine

If your top three formations favour creative midfielders, Engine is for you. The Chem Style is for offensive-minded CAMs, CMs or sneaky wides and while Short Passing and Acceleration have taken a hit, those nerfs open the way for a steady diet of Balance, Dribbling, and Crossing. If you’re against all things Madrid, opt for N'Golo Kanté or Sergio Busquets.
Best position(s): CAM, LM, RM
Main stats improved: Pace, Passing, Dribbling
Main attributes improved: Acceleration (+10), Balance (+10), Short Passing (+10)
Best players: Luka Modrić (91), Kevin De Bruyne (91)

7. Backbone

Crossing? Check. Short Passing? Check. Valuable numbers in Strength, Marking, Standing and Sliding Tackle? Bayern fans rejoice! Backbone is a lock for narrow formations and systems that require backs to be more uptempo upfield. Or if you really want to turn Leonardo Bonucci into Jordi Alba.
Best position(s): CDM, CB
Main stats improved: Defending, Shooting
Main attributes improved: Short Passing (+10), Sliding Tackle (+10), Standing Tackle (+10)
Best players: Sergio Ramos (91), Mats Hummels (89), Samuel Umtiti (87)

8. Sentinel

The Guardian and Gladiator styles are pretty inconsequential when Sentinel is the better option. Why? It’s a welcome boost to quick defenders and agile CDMs who have better-than-average Pacing. Tack on bonuses in Strength, Aggression and Interceptions, and you will find yourself shuffling through everyone from Diego Godín to Thiago Silva and Chelsea's César Azpilicueta.
Best position(s): CDM, CB, LB, RB
Main stats improved: Defending, Physical
Main attributes improved: Marking (+15), Strength (+15), Standing Tackle (+15)
Best players: Sergio Ramos (91), Diego Godín (90), Samuel Umtiti (87)

9. Shadow

This Chem Style is designed for those that have a literal need for speed. It’s one of the weakest options for defensive wizards, but it can provide a much-needed boost for backs that are low in Pacing and Sprint Speed. High marks in both tackling categories open the doors for the likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Casemiro. Looking for a cheaper addition? Go with Serbia’s Nemanja Matić (86).
Best position(s): LB, RB, LWB, RWB
Main stats improved: Pace, Defending
Main attributes improved: Acceleration (+15), Marking (+15), Sliding Tackle (+15)
Best players: Toni Kroos (90), Casemiro (88), Kalidou Koulibaly (87)
