Red Bull Rio Grande Gravel is more than a gravel race, it’s a gravel experience. As with any experience, the more prepared we are for them, the more positive the outcome. For Red Bull Rio Grande Gravel we recommend:
01
Tubeless tires: Min width of 40mm. Knobby aggressive tread @ low pressure (tires should be soft).
- Stop by the Mellow Johnny’s or Meteor tents if you need help.
02
Gearing: Negative gear ratio or 1:1 at the very least.
- Negative means the biggest gear in back is bigger in diameter than the smallest gear in front.
- 1:1 would mean the biggest gear in the back is the same size as the smallest gear in the front.
- Trust us, these hills out here add up!
03
Safety: Disc brakes and a helmet are musts as well.
- Rim brakes will not be sufficient for some of the descents on this course.
04
Hydration
- Make sure you have at least one water bottle, two are better in case you lose one while riding.
05
Repairs
- A flat kit is a must
- You will be on your own between checkpoints.
- We will have people sweeping the course but you could be out there awhile.
- Please be prepared to change your own flats and re-inflate your tires on your own.
06
Skincare & Protection
- Sunblock and a lip balm are also recommended.
- The sunlight is intense at elevation and the air is very dry.
- Buff or bandana to cover mouth and nose for dust.
