Fortnite’s infamous meteor finally crash landed last week, signalling the start of Season 4. The new season is all about superheroes, meaning that new changes, both big and small, have been added to the map to accommodate the new theme, as well as new Battle Pass content such as skins and emotes. We’ve compiled a list of five tips to help you get the most out of the new season and ensure your victory. Check them out below!

1. Make note of the changes to existing locations

After the meteor crashed, lots of existing locations within the game received a complete overhaul, with some changes harder to spot than others. For example, one of the condominiums in Snobby Shores housed a secret basement where up to two loot chests could spawn at once, but now it’s not the only hidden underground treasure trove to exist in the game. Multiple basements and attics have been added to existing housing structures, concealing even more loot to find.
One of the bigger, more noticeable additions are Secret Lairs. Found in the side of a mountain by Lonely Lodge and in a basement in Snobby Shores, these are fantastic places to find loot and also to camp out if you’re wanting to hide and utilise a stealthier approach to get yourself into the top ten. There’s no indication of what these Lairs might be used for yet but they’re still cool nonetheless.

2. Use hop rocks

By far the biggest change to the map is Dusty Depot, which got completely obliterated by the meteor and is now a gigantic crater known as Dusty Divot. You’ll find floating pieces of rocks here called hop rocks that, once collected, temporarily reduce your gravity. This makes for an incredibly fun time, especially if a bunch of players use them at once – there’s nothing quite like a low-gravity jump battle.
Dusty Divot also has some new chests in the guard towers, testing rooms and in crates.
There are some smaller craters hidden away, which also house a ton of hop rocks so if you want to try your hand at some low-gravity hijinks but don’t want to run into a horde of other players with the same idea, head to one of the other crash sites. They can be found east of Junk Junction, north-west of Snobby Shores, east of Fatal Fields, north-west of Moisty Mire, in Loot Lake and in Tilted Towers.

3. Risky Reels is the best new location for loot chests

If you head to the north-east corner of the map, you’ll notice that the once-empty section has been replaced by a new outdoor cinema area known as Risky Reels. It’s a smaller area than most but don’t let that put you off – it’s the best new location for loot chests.
When dropping, try and land on the roof of the building to the north of the area as there is sometimes a chest in the top room. You’ll be able to see if there is one as you’re gliding as there’s a large crack in the roof. As Risky Reels is a drive-in theatre, it’s no surprise that searching the boots of cars is your best bet for finding treasure so head there first for the chance of finding multiple spawns. There is also a chance of up to two chests appearing in the two large lorries parked in the area so make sure to search those too.
Finally, there’s almost always a chest in the hut to the east of the area so check that before you leave.

4. The best way to complete the Battle Pass and get rewards

With a new season comes a new Battle Pass, with fresh cosmetics such as skins, sprays and emotes. Obviously the most coveted rewards are the new skins, which can be unlocked at tiers 1, 23, 47, 71, 87 and 100 respectively, with the level 100 final unlockable skin closely resembling Marvel's Black Panther.
The easiest way to rank up and unlock the cosmetics is by completing weekly challenges. These consist of several tasks such as dealing a certain amount of damage with a specific weapon, getting a number of kills with a certain weapon, finding chests in certain areas and using consumable items such as Port-a-Forts.

5. Try out the limited Infinity Gauntlet event

As this season’s theme is superheroes, it seems rather fitting that Fortnite have partnered with Marvel Studios to bring Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet to the game in a limited Solo event to celebrate the release of Infinity War.
In the event, the Infinity Gauntlet will randomly spawn on the map, turning the first player to collect it into Thanos. Like normal games, the goal is to survive as long as possible and win but Thanos is armed with a variety of super-powerful attacks so defeating him is tougher than usual. All players are able to see his location at all times though so you might actually find yourself teaming up with your enemies to take him out.
If you do manage to beat him, you have the opportunity to wield the Gauntlet for yourself. Obviously there can be a scramble for it if you were fighting alongside others to defeat him but if you can get your hands on it, it’s incredibly fun to run around as Marvel’s latest villain.
