RedBull.com: Tell us about your experience shooting the Sound of Sport.
Loren Mutch: Shooting the Sound of Sport was an incredible experience! I've never worked with equipment like that, or been the center of attention for an all-day shoot like that before. The crew was awesome and my teammates were stoked to be a part of it too.
Which sounds have the most impact on you when you are competing, and how are those sounds captured in this video?
When the crowd gets really loud it can pump me up. When we first became champions in 2015, the crowd was so loud that the scoreboards were shaking and dust was falling from the mezzanine. That intensity is captured in the beginning of the video when my team is cheering together.

What sounds do you try to hone in on and tune out as you’re prepping for a bout?
As a jammer, I use my peripheral vision a lot. So during a game I try to hone in on my teammates voices and my coach's voice so we can be on the same page without always looking. I try to tune out my opponents and the announcers, and just focus on my team.
Compared to other sports, what makes roller derby so unique from a sound perspective?
The sound of our skates on the floor is loud, but the sounds we are really focused on is each other, and the amount of communication and teamwork that's required to be successful in our sport.
