PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds is a game that seems to have taken the whole PC community by storm. More than four million copies have been sold in just a few months, making it one of the best selling games this year. What makes that even more impressive is that PUBG is still in Early Access and is nowhere near feature complete.
Despite not yet being finished, PUBG is already an incredibly complex game. With 100 players dropping into a sizeable map and the only way to win being to be the last one standing there is a lot to think about when on the ground. Even before that, choosing which area of the map to drop into is quite the decision that can make or break your game.
Getting a chicken dinner is certainly no easy task. Not only do you have to find some weapons to eliminate the other players, but you also have to decide which is the best tactic to go with when you have decided on your arsenal for the game. Do you stay inside a town and hope to get some circle luck while camping out with a shotgun, do you push in with the circle and try to pick people off with an AR or do you take a sniper rifle up to the high ground and try to pick off all who come to challenge you?
There really are a myriad of ways of playing and each game is different, but there are of course a few core areas that you will need to master in order to succeed. So to find out the best ways to play and get some all important tips on how to win, we grabbed some of the best eSports pros in the world, who happen to have played a little PUBG in their spare time, to see what they have to say.
Håvard ‘rain’ Nygaard – CS:GO – FaZe Clan
Play aggressive and go in for battles, so you know how to play the game properly. That’s how I made it to top three in EU.
James ‘hazed’ Cobb – CS:GO – OpTic Gaming
I mean, the easiest way to win in that game, it's just like H1Z1, if you really want to win, camping's the way to go. That's not how I like playing. I like charging, and fighting, but especially in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, that's not good to do. Find some place on the edge of the map, loot everything, and then just camp like, say on the edge. Hide in bushes, prone in bushes. Just play like a little bitch and you will probably get top 10s. That'd be my suggestion, but that's not how I like to play. I like to charge people.
Robin ‘flusha’ Rönnquist – CS:GO – Fnatic
Tip would be: patience. Just always have to wait for the other ones to move, then shoot.
Jake ‘Xmithie’ Puchero – League of Legends – Immortals
Drop close to a car in case you need to make a quick escape. Explore looting places outside of the plane's trajectory, gear up and make your way towards play zones. When fighting against good players, utilize the leaning ability. Never stand still while looting (you'll want to spam A and D of your WASD keys). Also, shotguns shoot further than one would think.
Gabriel ‘FalleN’ Toledo – CS:GO – SK Gaming
I'm very bad on it. The first time I went to play this game, I was driving a car and then I saw some people and I tried to jump out and I died, so that's my tip – don't do that. That's pretty much when I closed the game and said “Oh, I can't play this.”
Jesper ‘JW’ Wecksell – CS:GO – Fnatic
I think you need to have a lot of patience. It's a big patience game, but you also need to always watch the circle. So yeah, I think patience is key in that game.
Jake ‘Stewie2k’ Yip – CS:GO – Cloud9
I'm honestly not that good at the game, you probably have to ask 'shroud'. But one tip it seems like, you just have to hide, and just run in with the circle, every time just hide.
Mike ‘shroud’ Grzesiek – CS:GO – Cloud9
Well I play an unorthodox way. Usually, I spawn in the war zone. I love being in the action. So that's not what you do, don't do that. You have to strategically pick a spot that's away from everybody, but still has good loot. And at that point, you just kinda follow the circle and you sit on the edge of the circle for as long as you can. And you just keep following the circle and stick to the edge. Make sure your back's always clear and then you'll win the game easily.
For fighting I have the military base and the school. The school is chaotic, I love it. You'll never succeed, usually, but it's a lot of fun. You'll get a couple kills, but if you're trying to win I think there's a bunch of good spots, it just depends on the route of your plane. So, you just want to pick the furthest location from the plane. That could be Primorsk. That could be Georgopol. That could even be the military base depending on where the plane goes.
If I was to pick any weapon it'd be the M4 fully attached, stock and everything. If there was no attachments, I would pick the AK. I think the AK is a lot better when it has no attachments than any other gun. And if we're talking sniper rifles, obviously the AWM. That's just super fun.
