Skateboarding
Atlanta might be known for its lively downtown area, but among the skyscrapers are other areas that make for hours of excitement and good memories. Within Atlanta’s top skateparks, skaters can escape the sidewalks and freely express themselves among fellow skaters.
What better place to try out new tricks than at a skatepark? If you’re looking to spin your wheels, the top skateparks in Atlanta are the perfect places to practice and learn new skills. They’re also a great spot for getting more integrated into the skateboarding community. Below are nine of the best skateparks in and around the ATL.
01
Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark
Located along the Eastside Trail of the Atlanta BeltLine trail, the Historic Fourth Ward Park was the first public skatepark in Atlanta. Legendary skater Tony Hawk’s foundation contributed $25,000 toward developing the park.
Alongside rails, ramps, bowls, and other high-quality skateboard amenities for skaters of all skill levels to practice on, the park offers a multi-use athletic field. This way, you can keep the fun going even when you’ve stepped off your board for the day. The park is open every day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
02
Brook Run Skatepark
Located in Dunwoody, a suburban area about 20 minutes north of Atlanta, Brook Run Skatepark is metro Atlanta’s largest skatepark. With 27,000 square feet covering various types of terrain, this park offers everything you need to practice — and master — your skills. It includes a large flow bowl, a pool-style bowl, and a street course with handrails, stairs, and curved and flat ledges.
The skatepark is just one of the parts of Brook Run alongside a multi-use trail, baseball field, community garden, and zipline course. It’s open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
03
Kennesaw Skatepark
Kennesaw Skatepark is located inside of Swift-Cantrell Park, about 30 minutes northwest of Atlanta. This all-concrete, Street League Pro-Style park includes many of the same features as parks that host major competitions. It combines street surfaces, a 10-foot skating pool, and a flow bowl to accommodate all skill levels. The park is open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
04
Duncan Creek Skatepark
Also known as Dacula Skatepark, Duncan Creek is located in Gwinnett County, about 30 minutes northeast of Atlanta. This skatepark offers simple structures such as vert walls, ledges, handrails, and stairs as well as more complex setups for practicing your skills.
There’s also a family-owned and operated Atlanta skate shop inside the park: Duncan Creek Skate Shop. Whether you left your helmet at home or want to purchase some new skate wheels, this shop has just about everything you need. The skatepark is open every day from sunrise to 11 p.m.
05
Union Hill Skatepark
Just 27 minutes north of Atlanta, Alpharetta is home to Union Hill Skatepark. This small skatepark is the only designated skating area in Alpharetta. It’s a pop-up skatepark that’s part of a 13-acre park, which is also home to a covered roller hockey rink. The park is open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
06
Arthur Langford Jr. Skatepark
Named after a member of the Atlanta City Council and Georgia Senate, the Arthur Langford Jr. Skatepark was the second skatepark to open in Atlanta.
If parts of the Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark seem a bit too challenging, this park might be perfect for you. It’s a beginner-level park with low stairs and ledges along with plenty of open space to learn and practice new tricks. This 6,000-square-foot skatepark is open every day from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., just minutes south of downtown.
07
DeShong Skatepark
DeShong Skatepark is located in Stone Mountain, about a 30-minute drive east of Atlanta. This 8,000-square-foot park includes a street plaza replete with handrails, ledges, and stairs. There are also a few trees in the center of the park, and that’s a big draw for this park. Under these trees’ shade, you can cool off on hot summer days during breaks from your skating sessions. Since you can skate here as long as the sun allows, the shade is sure to come in handy. The park is open from sunrise to 11 p.m. every day.
08
Peachtree City Skatepark
Just over half an hour south of Atlanta lies Peachtree City. The city’s skatepark includes street surfaces and transition features. At this park, you’ll find a bowl, quarter pipes, and down ledges. The park is open every day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for Saturday, when it closes at 7 p.m.
