Whether this is your first Oppikoppi or you just want to remind yourself of the amazing memories from last year's Oppikoppi, we've compiled a list of highlights from 2016 to help get you excited for a weekend of music and dust at the Oppikoppi Farm in Northam.
Arrival
After trekking in your car for a few hours you've finally arrived in Northam. Your first step is finding a place to camp in the maze that is general camping aka Mordor. Somewhere between a thorn tree and a dusty road you find a spot for you and you crew to set up camp. With tents pitched and drinks at the ready it's time to explore the farm, check out the stages and start to scream "OPPIKOPPI!" at passing strangers.
The People
With more than twenty thousand people in attendance, odds are you're going to make some new friends. The weird, wonderful and wacky souls all make an appearance at Oppikoppi and the chances of you walking back to your tent at night without a friendly encounter on the way are minimal. Expect to share a drink and a laugh with a stranger at their campsite in the early hours of the morning.
The View
It's not called Oppikoppi for nothing so your explorations will inevitably lead you up the 'koppi' and to an amazing view of the farm. With tents reaching almost as far as the horizon you congratulate yourself on finding a spot close to the gates and wonder how long the ones camped at the far end of farm have to walk just to enter the festival grounds. With the main stage in front of you, the Red Bull Studios Live Stage pumping behind you, and the rest scattered across the festival grounds you're spoiled for choice.
The Red Bull Studio Live Stage
The audio meets the visual at the Red Bull Studio Live stage. With great stage design that incorporates exciting visuals and bright lighting with thunderous sound, it's the perfect platform for the best in local and international electronic music. With the stage only closing at 5am, you know the party is going to be heaving all night long.
The Internationals
2016 saw UK rapper and musician Little Simz perform her blend of conscious rap and grimey bass music, as well as German techno legend Marc Romboy playing a devastatingly hypnotic set. This year the international performs feature British house DJ and producer Patrick Topping, best for his Beatport topping 'Forget', and British electronic music duo Snakehips who are known for their work with the likes of Tinashe, Chance the Rapper and Joey Bada$$.
The Best in Local Electronic Music
From the deep, jazzy sounds of Jazuelle, to the playful techno of Thor Rixon, the soulful songs of Kajama to the laidback beats of Beat Sampras and the emotional melodies of Langa Mavuso; this year's local line-up features artists from across the electronic music spectrum. From house and techno, to gqom and future beats, electronica and bass, the artist roster has something for everyone.
The Crowd
If you're among the crowd of people in front of the Red Bull Studios Live Stage, you're among good people. With open minds and an eagerness to party, the crowds at Oppikoppi are massive and full of fun. Find a good spot, listen to music, dance and make some new friends that are jamming just as hard as you are.
